WHY IS COMCAST CHANGING TURNER CLASSIC MOVIES TO SPORTS PACKAGE IN OCTOBER?

New Poster

TCM

I am so frustrated that I'm paying over 200.00 a month to Comcast and they now inform me I have to pay 10.00 more a month for TCM.  I am considering my options here instead of XFInity.

Removing TCM Channel?

Why did you remove the TCM channel?   You can only get it now by buying the Sport Package and that stinks.  Do not watch sport channels and like the old classic movies.   I guess this another reason to go to the streaming channels.

Very disappointed with Comcast. My 94 year old mother enjoys this channel like none other. I’m sure many elderly subscribers agree. TCM was already moved to the medium tier of programming packages, and now to the Sports package. It appears from previous responses from Xfinity that a great deal of research was completed to monitor the % of usage, but what consideration was given to the demographic of subscribers. Xfinity, you have targeted the lowest income population for this change. Many is Nursing homes are dependent on facility offerings, and you have seriously impacted their quality of viewing options. Shame on you!

TCM Dropped from Basic

Cut and pasted from "Comcast Agreement for Residential Services" section 4 "Changes to Service" states....

"If any material change negatively affects your Service(s), you have the right to cancel your Service(s). Your continued receipt of the Service(s) for more than 30 days after the change, however, will constitute your acceptance of the change."

So you don't scare me with your cancellation fees Comcast...........  We've only had Xfinity for a few months and were actually enjoying the service until you dropped TCM the the basic preferred package.  Reeks of  "Switch and Bait."  I guess you had to get your customers back from Frontier with low introductory rates and then drop a popular basic tiered channel only making it available through the purchase of another package to regain the loss due to the low introductory rates.... Hints of Extortion.  There should be laws.  I feel like writing to the FCC about your unethical practices.  And you can't tell me that TCM is an unpopular station, it's expanding all over the World, even China.......

Changing Turner Classic Movie Channel from regular lineup to Sports Package-Really?

Whose dumb idea was it to take TCM out of my line up of channels of which I already pay a fortune.  I believe you did this to try to get more people to subscribe to the sports package which is ridiculous.  How many women do you think are going to subscribe to a sports package to be able to watch TCM.  All Comcast is doing with these ridiculous changes like deleting several Cinemax channels to 1 Hitz channel and now moving TCM to the sports package is pushing people to find other TV options, moving them away from cable all together.

This is the last straw!

I will happily pay $20 more  month to another company other than Comcast.

A classic movie station that is paired with a sports package? That now we have to pay to watch black and white movies. When I can stream for free on You Tube!

Yeah this makes sense for the Stockholders!

TCM - Is this move being reconsidered?

When I see this remark left by Comcast regarding the move of TCM to a sports package:
" you are correct and effective October 10th TCM will move to our Sports Entertainment package"

When you read or when that was typed out, or when this decision was made, how was common sense not applied.  TCM to Sports Entertainment Package.   I have read the canned company response, it makes no rational sense if you are interested in customer satisfaction.  I've been a satisfied customer for many years, and this is the kind of change that can destroy those years of satisfaction.  I do hope the above quote is being re-read and possibly having the response of...wait, what were we thinking?

Changes in Channel Lineup

I want to register a complaint. First I heard that STARZ, one of my favorite channels, is being removed in December. And now I just found out that you've removed TCM from my package. I am not amused. While I understand that you no longer have a contract with STARZ, that is clearly not the case with TCM. It's absurd to me that you move this to a package focusing on sports and take it out of a package that focuses on MOVIES. That's what the M in TCM stands for, isn't it? Stop fooling around and give your customers what they want. I pay a pretty penny for my service and I resent this nickel-and-dime game of trying to get me to spend an extra $10 for one channel. Not acceptable. Not at all.

TCM

I am very sad, disappointed and frustrated with the removal of TCM from the normal viewing package which I just renewed.   I have been a customer of "only" comcast for many years and for our entire viewing cable experience.  We have never complained, only called for interruption in service or never asked for  anything but removing TCM was cruel and something we must address.   The TCM audience includes seniors, those sick or those confined at home or to bed, of any age,  and even younger generations of adults who remember sitting  with their grandmothers when they were young watching the old movies.   TCM becomes such a part of the holiday traditions, watching James Cagney on the 4th of July as the Yankee Doodle Dandy or watching one of the many wonderful Christmas movies like Miracle on 34th Street, Wonderful LIfe, etc.   Concerning the seniors, anyone struggling and the families who are just trying to meet their needs plus save a little at the same time,   you have placed an additional cost burden in order for customers to receive TCM through a new package deal.    I respectfully request that you reconsider your decision and bring back TCM.    Otherwise, I have been reading the community posts and like others, we are exploring and asking what direction  viewers are taking, even if it means severing  ties with comcast.    Please reconsider and bring back a small pleasure to so many customers.

Tcm money grab

Its my belief that Xfinity identified a specific demographic and pick a channel they are most likely to use to charge extra for. Xfinity knows that attempting to charge more for a channel that would be used by a younger generation such as MTV is futile. Xfinity decided to steal TCM from its customers that are actually paying the already too high bills and hold it for ransom. If you are ever anywhere in the Philadelphia area you can see the two massive buildings they built as a shrine to corporate greed and and lack of customer empathy. Shame on you Xfinity.

Turner Classic Movies

I was very upset today keep in mind we are customers with Comcast for 30 years every time we work our contract with you people we get less service and pay more. This is ridiculous now today I find out one of our favorite channels which was included with our new package Turner Classic Movies is a pay Channel now so you need to get the Sports Package which we don't need just to watch Turner Classic Movies. We were lied to. Nothing but excuses. Will be canceling our contract even though it might cost us in the end I don't deal with cheats and liars and that's all Comcast has become over the past few years. Actually posting a letter to the FCC to tell about your practices of lying to customers just to get them to renew their contracts your liars and cheats worst customer service I've ever dealt with what about the Nirvana project I was told was going to improve customer service for years ago that was a real flop. Goodbye Comcast

TCM

I just read that TCM will be put back into the digital package. It was outrageous that it was removed from the digital package in the first place.

When I called to complain, I was told that it was a low watched channel by the subscribers. This story has not been confirmed. I was offered two months of the free sports package which I declined. Comcast could restore this channel very quickly. If it is not restored by the end of the year, I am LEAVING COMCAST!!!!! I pay close to $300 a month already to Comcast. No more if TCM is not restored.

Unless you can provide a link to that story, you can consider it a rumor.  Comcast has no plans for moving TCM out of the Sports and Entertainment tier.

TCM channel move to Sports Package

I signed-up for a specific cable package that included one of my favorite channels TCM.  It was a 2 year commitment.  Comcasts decides to change the lineup and now, if I want TCM, I need to pay and extra $10 a month.  Doesn't is seem reasonable and fair that if I commit to a channel lineup for a certain period that Comcast should do the same without requiring more money?

Basic package missing TCM

I called Comcast last week and they said TCM was no longer available in the basic package.  We've had this channel for years so why would they take it away?  We are older so we love some of the old movies so its a shame we no longer have this.  We are retired so don't want to add another package for the extra money since basic cable is a major expense.  I just wonder why I need some Spanish channels that come with basic but can't get a what seems like a basic TCM??  I'm sure I'm not the only one from the older generation wondering this?
Anyways, the customer rep never gave any indication this would be corrected!  Comcast needs to make this right!  It's kind of a slap against the older generation and movies.  Most of the movies are classics and better than some of the ones we have today.

TCM

I posted that Comcast was putting TCM back into the digital package. Someone said it was a rumor. I don’t think that it was a rumor but it was my mistake. When I reread the article, it was Comcast putting TCM back in to OTHER states. Customers are extremely upset about this, myself included. And it seems that Comcast is ignoring its customers. They not only offer lame excuses for why TCM was removed, but an absurd excuse for why it was put back in other states. I’m shopping and will leave Comcast when I find something else to subscribe to. It shouldn’t be too hard. I’m thinking that Comcast has already crunched the numbers figuring out that they will still profit even if they lose customers over this. I agree with the customer who wants to know why we have to pay for a multitude of Spanish speaking channels and lose a very popular English speaking one 😡

Could you please post a link to the article you read that some states are having TCM reinstated?

I'm also wondering why, on my device, there are no Reply buttons in the forum thread you are referencing. I can't comment there for some reason (don't expect you to know that ).

No wonder people are abandoning Xfinity-Comcast. Time to explore other options...

Should you wish to pusue watching TCM without Comcast, here is a link that offers some options:

The Oregonian

Though it will still be extra cost, it may well be a good way to introduce yourself to streaming and eventually cut the cable cord and move into the 21st Century.  Obviously you will still need Internet, but there are more options available there for many folks.

I'm Paying Almost $400 Per Month, Now I Must Subscribe to TCM

COMCAST - You really blew it by requiring a subscription to TCM that was part of my package previously. I'm disappointed to the point of starting to shop you all. I guess a monopoly can do what it wants and not expect anyone to blink. You all disappoint me.

Channel theft

TCM is my favorite channel;  all of a sudden, I could no longer watch it unless I paid an extra $10 a month.  I am trying to lower my bills, not raise them.  The Comcast representative told me the company bundled that channel and several sports channels to sell as a promotion. I don't watch sports channels. Thanks for stealing something I was already paying for.  I'll not pay the extra amount, and am seeking another way to watch TV, other that Xfinity, for the greedy actions taken.

Why is TCM no longer available

Removing TCM from xfinity appears to be discrimination against comcast's older customers.  I think viewers less than 50 may seldom watch this channel.  However, a vast number of people over 50 who I know do watch TCM and are very disappointed.  I believe many of them will look for other providers is this policy is not reversed.

Channel STARZ

Xfinity is removing Starz and replacing it with EPIX.  Why have a package if Xfinity continually removes channels?  They removed TMC and Cinemax.  Xfinity replaced Cinemax with HITZ which is a useless channel.

I am very dissatisfied and annoyed with how Xfinity is removing channels and replacing them with inferior channels.

Of course, we can always purchase STARZ for additional money, but why if it was included in the package.

People need to call Xfinity to complain about the removable of Starz, TMC and Cinemax, although they probably don't care.

Unfair practice

I pay for service, and have been paying premium for ALL my TVs for TCM. However, when Comcast decided not to include TCM in regular service, this required an upcharge for a box in my kitchen which is smaller in order to still get TCM on this TV . The smaller box stopped getting TCM. Again, I pay for TCM/HBO/Premium already-$245 monthly, but preferred the smaller box in my kitchen. In order to continue to get TCM in my kitchen, I would have to pay about $20 to get a different box shipped AND pay an additional $4 a month just to get what I am already paying for. I think that is a poor way to treat a loyal customer and an unethical way to increase prices without increasing service. @ I am going to contact the Better Business Bureau, since my contact with service reps gives me no satisfaction over this unfair practice.

TCM loss to Premier clients

When I asked Xfinity rep today exactly why TCM was being moved to another -- more expensive, dont'cha know -- bundle (other than the one I subscribe to), it seems the reps have been coached to tell the inquiring customers untruths. I was told it was because (Turner) had raised it prices, and Comcast/Xfinity could "no longer afford" to include TCM in its Premier lineup. Every other media source explains the 'rationale' is due to Turner's planned roll-out of its own streaming service. So why not just be honest Comcast/Xfinity? We get that the $5 "additional" charge to have TCM back in our lineup might be an  (intended) help to offset all of the cable-cutters.  And brace yourselves for the loss of Startz channels next month (14+ channels of Starz to the table-scrap two of Epix we will be granted in return). Wonder if we'll see a reduction to our tv bill with all of this loss of content (cue eye-rolling).

channel subscription

I am extremely upset. I think it is rotten that Xfinity can take the TCM network away that I wanted when I joined Xfinity and purposely bought the package with TCM network. Now Xfinity has taken TCM away from me and tells me if I want it I have to pay more money. I am sorry I made the decision to come to Xfinity if they just change my programming at their own discretion without even considering what I want. And then have the nerve to tell me I have to pay more money if I want it again.

Turner Classic Movies

We do not do much with our television stations other than watch Turner Classic Movies and now you have decided to charge extra to get TCM.

I am seriously disappointed by this decision.  I feel helpless to do anything about your decision other than to pack my bags and go elsewhere.  I do not know how many customers that you will lose 200 or 2000, but it is apparent you do not care.

I have read the responses and they have been without guilt or remorse on the part of the people who were answering them.

There are customers for which this is the important reason to wade through many of the bad stations to get this one.  And you added it to live sports.  I do not want to help pay for live sports.  I want TCM and would be willing to pay a buck or two a month for it.

From my perspective you have hurt our relationship and you are not to be trusted in your decision making.  I cannot say goodbye today, but it is soon and it is coming and TCM is the motivation.  You decided this not me.

And by the way it is not too late to change your mind and I will forgive you.

TCM Why was TCM combined with ten sports channels that I will never watch?

Comcast is making it more and more difficult to not cut the cord and go with Hulu live streaming or other options. I try to be a loyal customer and all Comcast wants to do is reduce levels of service.  I watch TCM ALL THE TIME. I come back after being away 2 months to find out it is now gone and I have to pay for 10 sports channels I will NEVER watch to get a movie channel??? Whose brilliant logic is this one?  This is the way to lose loyal customers..   I will never play the game of buying more service for what I don't watch to get one channel but I will definitely look into options other than using Comcast for live streaming.  How about asking people (you know, loyal customers) what they think of a change before just implementing.  If you would have at the very LEAST , combined it with other movie channels , then maybe. Or just allow TCM as an individual add on to existing package.

When is TCM going to be removed from the "sports" Package and put back where it belongs?

Comcast should return TCM where it belongs. They are asking seniors and veterans to pay TEN DOLLARS A MONTH for ONE CHANNEL.

That is vile.

Why are you behaving so vilely, Comcast? Greed and a lack of compassion and common decency is not a good look for you.

At the end of my contract, I will be looking for better services--unless TCM is once again available with the PACKAGE I'VE BEEN PAYIN FOR.

You all have no integrity whatsoever. None.

You should be ashamed of yourselves.
