WiFi not configured correctly, open ports facing the internet

I have a program on my computer called WiFi inspector. After scanning it says that the device is not configured properly. It has open ports facing the internet and currently has a needlessly large attack surface.  I also tried 3 different apps on my iPhone which gave me the same information. Last night I engaged in an internet chat with the Xfinity agent. He assured me that all is okay then proceeded to try to get me to upgrade my sevice.  He gave me a phone number to call for a security specialist. After almost a 40  minute wait on hold I talked to someone, and even though I gave him specific informtion of the port numbers that were vunerable, he could not help me and gave me the runaround to call the WiFi department who  I had already talked to.  I just added a VPN to my iPhone and iPad, and just guess I will use  the ethernet cable for the laptop. Any suggestions?

Re: WiFi not configured correctly, open ports facing the internet

Got any screenshots to attach?    Wifi does not have ports as it is a layer 1 & 2 network service and ports are a layer 3 construct.    So the idea of wifi being configured with open or closed ports appears to be nonsense.    Your router may well have undesirable open ports.   Deal with that by configuring via your router admin page/login at 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1. .  "large attack surface" sounds like  quasi-nonsense associated with a once-revered but now-questionable  free antivirus program which I have used but was happy to uninstall.   Adding VPN to your devices is an optional way to pay extra money to reduce your network security & reliability & performance.     Uninstall VPN and get your money back if you paid for it, and reconsider whether to trust whichever source made you think VPN was a good idea for you, even if the source was "google".

Thank for your reply, but this was posted awhile ago. After checking with some experts and Comcast service, I uninstalled the the antivirus program I was using and am now using Norton which is included with Xfinity. I am placing trust in them. Thanks again🙂

BTW, they sent me a new router. The one I was using needed updated.
