Re: Blackmail

You should be concerned about spyware, viruses etc regardless of what the email states. Do virus scans on a regular basis to protect yourself

Re: Blackmail

I have received the same email, starting April 30th, on my comcast email account. I only opened cause the subject showed an old password...

I called the police, they know about it and just said to check passwords and do the usual security checks.

I got another the following day. I didn't open just deleted. Is this the best way to deal with this?

So, looking through all the responses seems that no one feels these threats/blackmail are going to be acted on by the senders/blackmailers?

*What I have understood so far is that security checks with norton or simular is first defense. (I do  this, norton is active but never showed any alerts.?)

*Delete email(s) do not open. Please explain what opening the emails trigger if any to the senders/blackmailers?

*check change passwords

What I want to do is delete the email account I have and start a new one on @comcast.net.

Any one think or advise taking that action?

Re: Blackmail

It’s been happening to all ISP’s not just Comcast. Do whatever makes you feel safer but changing email addresses wont guarantee anything popping up again your new address in the future

Will just deleting emails is the answer to this?

What happens if/when you open. By mistake on my part...is that why I'm getting more threats?

Re: Blackmail

It is very likely that the password is outdated, not used, etc. Of course, people use the same password all over the place, so appearance of compromise may not in fact be compromise (i.e., the scammer is using some oudated site to get your password; just so happens it is current to you). It's also unlikely that malware on your computer is really an issue. It's much more likely if you reply to them, that's the actual goal of the scam.  Deep breath. Don't fret πŸ™‚
