Valorant packet loss, tracert, portforwarding and more (Chicago)
I have tried everything in the book on this one and my problem continues to persist. I've changed routers. I've upgraded my PC. I've changed cables. I've completed port forwarding. Changed and flushed DNS. I've whitelisted on firewalls, hell, I've even turned my firewall off, and still I get consistent packet loss in Valorant with my Xfinity internet. It is astounding to me that I'm paying as much as I am with this being a consistent issue. And no, there is no issue with anything else. I can stream video just fine, I can listen to music just fine, I can play other games just fine. It is specifically related to Riot Games' servers.
Looking at the comments here on the forum, it seems I'm not the only one either (more than 100 threads when searching Valorant). I spent all of last week sending logs and running tests with Riot Games' support to identify the issue, and the cause is the routing to the North American servers for my connection. I have two Tracert files (one before port forwarding and one after) that show the exact same problem of timing out on 6th hop for both.
I've called customer support and spent the better part of an hour trying to work this out with the staff, only to be told to do port forwarding. Well, I completed that using Riot Games' guide, and the packet loss continues to persist. Within the below blockquote are the details that Riot Games support shared with me to share with Xfinity to get this resolved. I provided this to customer support twice now with no indication that anybody would do something about it.
We will ask your help to contact your ISP for some help, ask them for a reroute since with the actual one you have issues to that IP server.
Your ISP can go ahead and navigate to our PeeringDB page, or this email right here: peering at riotgames.com. To spare you some digging, they can also access this form page right from our PeeringDB page, to help them solve the issue.
Further context because I've already checked it:
- I'm using wired internet.
- This is on my PC.
- I'm only experiencing this with Riot Games.
Can somebody please help me with this? I feel as though I'm getting no where and nobody is listening.

Hello, user_22c09a. Thank you for taking the time to reach out and being part of the Xfinity family. That definitely sound frustrating, and I'm sorry you're having such a hard time. I'd be more than happy to help you with your internet issues. In order to get started can you please send me a private message to Xfinity Support with your full name and full address by clicking the chat icon in the top right?
