Unable to reset

I'm fed up with our WiFi.  Due to a number of issues including spoofed websites, limited access to the internet for no known reason, frequently having to change passwords and bank cards...  I use ethernet for my computer.  Plenty of times, I have to Ipconfig /release  ... flushdns ... renew... before a website will work... I decided to attempt, once again, to do a factory reset on our gateway. Everything seemed to go fine until it came back up and was still broadcasting the previous SSID instead of the XFISetup or whatever it is.  All the devices, of course, immediately connected back to it.  So I did it again.  And again.. I pulled aaalll the cables out of the unit and let it sit and  think about what it had done for about an hour, I think, while I did other things.  Finally the captive portal comes up (I was not expecting it) and asks me if I want to change wifi name/password.. (which it's never done before... it always walks me through setting up the new name and password.. then the access site's username and passoword...) and so I do.  It told me something had gone wrong and it refused to accept the change.  I tried again and changed it again... it didn't accept it, but the SSID name changed to what I had previously attempted, just not the password..I tried again and again until finally, I gave up.  Due to the need for internet among those in my home, I just gave in and let the Gateway tell me what it was willing to do.

I feel like it's been hacked into and certain tools on the app or the website dont work.  Advanced security doesn't seem to work very well, the wifi spectrum analyzer is just a picture of what it WOULD look like if it were useless...

IDK what else to do.  Is any of this common?
