Hitron CODA, upload speeds intermittently fluctuating

I ran into some information that suggested I contact the Xfinity Digital Care team. From what I understand, they have access to tier-2 backend tools that can fix a specific Hitron CODA provisioning glitch.

I recently upgraded from a Motorola MB7220 modem to a Hitron CODA modem. The Hitron CODA modem is in the next-gen tier, and supports 934 Mbps download speeds and 100 Mbps upload speeds: https://www.xfinity.com/support/internet/customerowned. Here is a screenshot of the section: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Z1cKL15zfy7r7YeYNgU6fEtq_BvM5a2U/view?usp=sharing.

I switched my Internet plan from the legacy 300 "Connect More" tier to the modern 300 tier. The modern 300 tier is listed to have typical download speeds of 352 Mbps and typical upload speeds of 117 Mbps. I've been performing recurring speedtests on the device wired directly into the modem (sometimes a laptop; sometimes a router; not a device indirect to the modem that's, for example, on the WLAN broadcasted by my router). I monitor my LAN's traffic on my router's dashboard. My download speeds are stable at ~350 Mbps, even though my LAN has more download activity. My upload speeds are intermittently fluctuating between 20 Mbps and 120 Mbps, even though the upload activity is, at most, 2 Mbps bursts, coming from the Xfinity cameras. Here is a screenshot of a speedtest done on the TP-Link Deco M9 Plus dashboard: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1QEQ8V0Id4jzWWRHQiL1RqV4--CJRMdhh/view?usp=sharing.

I've contacted several Xfinity live agents who claim they have provisioned my modem with the latest bootfile and sent refresh signals. When I power cycle the modem, the upload speed initially hits 120 Mbps, as expected, but eventually degrades.

I've inspected my modem's upstream overview dashboard, and under DOCSIS mode column, DOCSIS 3.0 ATDMA is listed across all channels. I was expecting, with the latest bootfile, for it to list DOCSIS 3.1 OFDMA, indicating that it's using the new next-gen/mid-split profile. Here is a screenshot of the Hitron CODA modem's upstream overview: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1IgYmYu8z4EzAvnvOeUHr9kMYydYNSe9H/view?usp=sharing.

Some information suggested that my CMTS (Cable Modem Termination System) profile cache be cleared.

Any thoughts? Please advise.

Thanks.

Hello, user_8684so! Thank you for choosing Xfinity and joining us here on the forums! I completely understand wanting the flexibility to choose what works best for your home setup, and I’m glad you’re exploring your options. You absolutely have the choice to purchase and use your own modem or gateway instead of renting one from Xfinity. At the same time, I want to make sure you’re aware that the Xfinity Wireless Gateway is designed to provide strong coverage, fast speeds, and even access to a secure home WiFi hotspot, which many customers find really convenient.
If you’re thinking about using your own equipment, the most important next step is to make sure it’s fully compatible. You can do that by visiting the My Device Info page and signing in to see personalized recommendations. If your Hiltron listed? Once you check, let me know—I'm happy to help you review your options and make sure everything will work smoothly for you! Please be reminded that sending unsolicited Direct Messages to an Official Employee of the Xfinity Community Forum is a violation of Forum Guidelines. In the future, we ask that you please find the most appropriate public board for your question type and post it there. If needed, we may invite you to send us a Direct Message. This is just a heads-up for next time, and I look forward to helping out here.

Yes. The Hitron CODA is listed there. I checked that list before I bought it.

Sorry. I posted here in the Xfinity Community Forum. Doesn't this thread qualify as a public board?

Edit: Oh whoops, I see now I did send a DM prematurely. Sorry!

Welcome back @user_8684so, and thanks for confirming your equipment details!

We understand this process can be confusing, so to clarify to help keep things running smoothly in the future, please wait for an official request from our team before sending a direct message.

I'd be more than happy to look into this for you, if you could send our team a direct message with your full name and the service address associated with your account to get started.

To send a "Direct Message" to Xfinity Support:

Click "Sign In" if necessary

Click the "Direct Messaging" icon

Click the "New message" (pencil and paper) icon

The "To:" line prompts you to "Type the name of a person". Instead, type "Xfinity Support" there

- As you are typing a drop-down list appears. Select "Xfinity Support" from that list

- An "Xfinity Support" graphic replaces the "To:" line

Type your message in the text area near the bottom of the window

Press Enter to send it.

Some new information. A tech came in to temporarily replace the Hitron CODA with an Xfinity Gateway XB8 (CGM4981COM), with the intent of troubleshooting. Overall, the performance dropped. I had one client device wired into the XB8, using a 3 ft Ethernet cable. A speedtest was done on the client device. The speedtest reported download speeds that were 100 Mbps slower and upload speeds were still intermittently whipsawing, this time between 2 Mbps to 100 Mbps, instead of 30 Mbps to 120 Mbps.
