Nevermind, I was able to disable it via the "User and Settings" tab followed by the"Manage Wifi" link under my service address.

What worked for me is I had to sign into the main user account of my comcast account, when I logged in with secondary accounts there was no "Manage my Wifi" link in relation to the service address under the user and settings tab.

The first two times I clicked the "disable my public wifi" option, I received an error message of "Something unexpected happened."

I'm using the latest google chrome browser with adblock installed and running and when I disabled the adblock for the comcast site on the 3rd try it was succesful. It seems to take 1-2 minutes before it fully disables. Using a wifi anaylzer tool I could no longer see it on the channel or a broadcast ssid.

Just so I'm clear about this Comcast Hotspot stuff...Comcast cannot push a hotspot onto customer-purchased 3rd-party modems and routers, correct? I ask, because, I am suddenly seeing my router carrying two IPs on the same node...10.0.1.1 and 10.0.1.4. This just showed up today and I cannot explain it.

This is correct. Third party equipment should not have the Xfinity WiFi hotspot feature. The feature is only available on the gateways provided by Comcast.

Thanks!

Hello there,

I believe I disabled yours. I received an error message halfway through when disabling the hotspot, but when I checked again, it showed as disabled.

Let me know if you still see the signal broadcasting from your gateway still.

Thanks!

Comcast turned on Xfinity Wifi in my area, and I immediately had problems with a WIRELESS REPEATER in my network. It would lose network connection 5-10 times a day. I tried everything, including firmware updates, but nothing worked. Finally tried to turn off Xfinity Wifi at the modem level and kept getting the "Unexpected error" message. Spent one hour on the phone with an arrogant, unhelpful, rude Comcast wireless customer service person, who reset the modem 3 times, but could not fix the problem. They want to "send out a service person" and make me pay for a new modem, when this one clearly works. I just wanted the Xfinity Wifi turned off.

Finally found this thresd, I switched to Chrome (from Firefox) and was able to turn off the Xfinity Wifi. Since then, I have not lost the wireless repeater sub-network even once.

Thanks Jesse!

Ok, got it to work on my end finally. (1st time ever)

And got it disabled again....but It took way too many tries and errors than it should have.

Anyway, I managed to get it disabled, and as long as it stays disabled then I'm happy.

Thank you for the help anyway ComcastJesse.

I'll be sure and post back if I need it again.

Please help. Haven't been able to disable the xfinity hotspot from my homepage. Getting the following error:
"You will not be able to enable or disable the XFINITY WiFi Home Hotspot feature as you do not have an eligible XFINITY Wireless Gateway in your home."
I have contacted comcast several times and i was told they can not do it from their end since the router is my own. Las time i was told that i have to call motorola for help. I have a SBG6580 surfboard.

I've had the 'Xfinity Home Hotspot' for a few days now and its not really any different from the'Guest network' found on all newer Cisco wireless routers, except you need a Comcast account to sign in. I have 14 grandchildren and I love guest networks. So what's everyone so excited about?

I dont care about the hotspot its conflicting on my androids. It search for the closest signal and disconnects me in the middle of a game and then reconnects me. This is why i want my hotspot disabled. Im sick of losing connections for a couple seconds every now and then during the day!

I have mine turned off. I wondered what is everyone having a hard time for. So I went and clicked on it again and after about 10-15 seconds got:

XFINITY WiFi
XFINITY WiFi Home Hotspot:

When XFINITY Wifi Home Hotspot is enabled, your XFINITY® Wireless Gateway will broadcast a second signal, "xfinitywifi," providing a separate network for your guests while keeping your private WiFi network secure - at no additional charge.

Manage XFINITY WiFi Home Hotspot:XFINITY WiFi Home Hotspot

- Enable XFINITY Wifi Home Hotspot
- Disable XFINITY Wifi Home Hotspot

Why is mine working and no one elses? Mine worked the first time I tried it. I'm using Google Chrome. Is that it?

This has got to be the number one complaint about your services.  Why don't you have someone fix the stupid thing instead???

BTW, the way you're using the pop-up is part of the problem.

For the last several months I've experienced notable drops in speed and connectivity on my wifi devices and just haven't had time to mess with it. If only I'd been following tech news I could have jumped on this sooner.

So, Jesse, could you add me to your list to turn off the hotspot? I've tried with 3 different browsers at different times and run into the aforementioned unexpected errors.

Thanks much!

WAIT, cancel that. I tried it over and over again while waiting on the phone and finally a pop up window came up and allowed me to disable it and the only thing I see is my wi-fi signals.

Thank you for whatever you did to get them to fix the problem"

The problem is still not fixed. I had to just keep clicking Manage XFINITY WiFi then x-ing out of the error msg over and over until finally the correct pop up window appeared which allowed me to disable XFINITY WiFi. I guess now we need to start a pool on what date it will mysteriously get re-enabled.
