Xfinity Home Hotspot now asking for a password

We had the XB6 installed...everything worked out just fine but our xfnitywifi hotspot disappeared...we called in and was told it was turned off in the new default settings...so it was turned on from their side and it was working for a couple of weeks...today however it is now prompting for a password. Tried our home wifi password...even the original password from the XB6 box bottom still wouldn’t work. Do we have to keep on calling Comcast to open it each time the system updates?

Re: Xfinity Home Hotspot now asking for a password

You need to use your Comcast account credentials to use the open xfinitywifi hotspots.

The default wireless password is the one found on the gateway, that is for your private home wireless network.

Also, you can enable/disable the xfinitywifi hotspot and manage any of your devices that connect to it, in your Comcast account settings. If you want it on and it's working probably best to leave it now. Smiley Happy

Re: Xfinity Home Hotspot now asking for a password

Thanks for the reply...we want to keep it open for sure...I called tech support and up to now they still cannot figure it out...still waiting for their callback. Yes the account holder can open it via their account or in our case call it in which we did earlier and worked...the password prompt is a new thing...before when the hotspot is closed there was no wifi signal to see at all...the xfinity sign in is gone.

My xfinitywifi SSID has been disabled for months, but thought it did NOT require a password.

How to Connect

To automatically connect at Xfinity WiFi Hotspots and get the best possible experience, install the security profile on your device. To sign in manually when you are at a hotspot:

  1. Using your WiFi-enabled device, connect to the Xfinity WiFi network (network name: xfinitywifi) and launch your browser.
  2. The browser will redirect you to the Xfinity WiFi sign-in page. If you don't see the sign-in page, enter a different URL, like www.xfinity.com, in your browser to be redirected to our sign-in page.
  3. Sign in using your Xfinity username and password and register your device.

Note: Once you've signed in and registered your device, you may be prompted to install the Xfinity WiFi secure profile, which enables you to take advantage of enhanced security features at many hotspot locations. The installation process varies by operating system, so please follow the on-screen prompts.

The technician changed our box...the xfinitywifi signal disappeared altogether...technical support says the new XB6 box does not have the public wifi option among its features...
