The downstream power is a little high and it may be fluctuating even higher intermittently. The newer specs prefer -7dB to +7dB on modern systems. Rest are good. Can you remove the router temporarily for troubleshooting purposes and trace again to see if you still get that high latency figure on the first CC hop ? Your issue lies very close to home.

Re: Slow Connection in Albuquerque, NM

That actually a "lot" better ! Try resetting it to factory defaults before you go out and purchase a new one. This can sometimes clear up some weird corruption issues. You might want to also see if there are any firmware upgrades available for it at the manufacturers website. Out of curiosity may I ask what make and model it is ? Yes there is a latency issue farther out on the backbone with the path to or the return from that site. But that is only one single trace to one single destination. Other paths to other sites/servers may not have the same results.

The router is a Netgear WGR614 v6 which is a bit of a Dinosaur admittedly.

Re: Slow Connection in Albuquerque, NM

Yeah, it's a bit long in the tooth. Was that trace performed with a wireless or hardwired connection ? You may have a wireless connectivity issue. Remember to do the reset a check for the firmware.

All hardwired, I don't use wireless for PC, and hardly ever for my streaming devices either.

Re: Slow Connection in Albuquerque, NM

O/k but was the wireless radio enabled or disabled ? If it was the latter was it locked down ? Could someone have been leeching your bandwidth ? Just a thought..

Re: Slow Connection in Albuquerque, NM

yeah, but it still doesn't adress the inconsistent pings up the backbone from where I am. I play World of Warcraft and am getting pings today of 500ms+. My typical is 30-60ms and that's even while watching Netflix on another device on the network.

No indeed it does not. I'm afraid that as a fellow customer I can't help with that. Do all traces to all places look like that ? I doubt that the entire WWW routing infrastructure/paths is/are fubarred.

Re: Slow Connection in Albuquerque, NM

yep, getting the same results from any tracert/pings I can come up with. Speedtest.net gives odd results, my upload speeds are almost double my download speeds right now.

Re: Slow Connection in Albuquerque, NM

So you are saying that traces to every destination traverse the exact same routers/path ??

Have you tried ALL THOSE traces again since removing the router from the mix ?

No, the only route that goes the same is up to santateresa tx, then it goes out from there apparently, but the results are similar, router or no.
