Replacing my router

I am going to replace my existing router with a new one.

Do I need to inform Comcast (and provide a new MAC) before installing my new router?

Thank you

Nope, don't need to inform Comcast.  Just power cycle the modem so that it will recognizee the new router.

Are you talking about one of those combo modem/router gateway units or are you using a separate modem and a separate router? If it is the latter, it is as JamesR has stated. If it's a gateway device you will need to either use the automated online registration page that you will see in the browser when you connect it up, or call in the MAC addy.
