Remote Desktop (over VPN) drops frequently

As Comcast support has tended to be, well, less than completely helpful (they're very good at repeating the problem back to me though), I figured I'd try here. But I'm pretty sure being told to power cycle the modem every week isn't the answer.

 

I've been having this problem for quite a while and haven't found anything that fixes it. When I connect via VPN to my desktop at work (Windows 10 Pro at home, Windows 7 Enterprise at work) my RDP connection will intermittently drop pretty much the entire time I'm online. While trying to figure this out, I've noticed that while it happens every day, it is worse on weekdays. It also seems to get triggered most frequently when I'm typing or clicking about rapidly. It never happens if I'm just looking at information on the screen but if I start inputting rapidly, it'll disconnect.

 

Originally, I was using the Cisco DPC3941T modem (I'm on a 300Mbps plan, fwiw) but I went out and purchased a Netgear C7800 - both have the issue. I've also tried connecting multiple PCs - a Surface Pro 4, a Surface Pro 5, an Asus ROG GR8 II and one I built myself - via wifi and ethernet cables (the Surface PCs via a dock); same behavior. When I attempt the same connection (VPN and RDP) at some other location (at a Starbucks or some other random wifi network outside or if I use the guest wifi at work), this doesn't happen so it seems to be isolated to my apartment.

 

Just wondering if there are any ideas worth trying. The only thing I've found that makes it slightly less bad was to set netsh interface to highlyrestricted.

 

The modem's event logs show several rows of errors (mostly the one below) but I haven't been able to figure out what impact it might be having:

Did you ever figure this out? It’s happening to me too when connected to Cisco Mobile Client (VPN).
