I just purchased a Netgear C710

0V to replace my CIsco modem with voice.  I already have a router.  Can  I just plug in my old router to this unit or must I use the router here for my internet?  I tried to buy one without voice but Comcast will not take back the old one and deduct the rental unless the new modem has voice.  What a mess!

If you were to hang a stand-alone / separate router off of a gateway device, and the gateway is not in *bridge mode*, you are cascading 2 routing devices which results in an undesirable "double NAT" condition on your home network.

Google "double NAT" for info about it's potential pitfalls.

Just use the C7100 and see how you like it's performance.
