Extreme 105 internet, but only getting 45 down and 25 up

Extreme 105 internet, but only getting 45 down and 25 up

45 down and 25 up is when using xfinitiy's speed test. When I use a 3rd party test like Mlabs (https://www.measurementlab.net/tests/ndt/) I'm only getting 3 mbps down and 20 mbps up.

I'm on Wifi and the router is 15 feet away from my device.

I get 28/6 on a 200/10 connection with that Mlab test. LOLLL !!

What do you get here;

 I concur!  MLAB is telling me 22x26 when I use speedtest.com's app on wifi 500x45.  Wired connection is 950x45.  So, yeah, there's obviously something wrong with their app or pipe.

https://sourceforge.net/speedtest/

https://testmy.net/ - this one should be fine for connections under 200M

http://speedsmart.net/ - this one's pretty lightweight and scores a bit slower than actual but, still a good ballpark

http://www.dslreports.com/speedtest - this one is pretty consistent

Check your cables and do a bit of troubleshooting. Cat5 is only good to 100 with is more that you are seeing but still a concern. Plug a laptop, or your computer, straight into your modem using Cat6 cables at least. Make sure nothing else in in the way. It will tell you if the problem is upstream (comcast feed) or down stream (your place). I had the same problem with the ExtremeBlast 150 and using a laptop saw that my internal cables are are fault. Your maight have an older switch in line etc.

37/23 on dslreports.com

and

37/23 on sourceforge.net

(weren't exactly the same, but they rounded to the same number).

Any ideas?

FWIW, they mentioned that they are getting that on a WiFi connection.

And even with a hardwired cat5 / ethernet connection / overhead it shouldn't be that low. It should be around 85-90.

Re: Extreme 105 internet, but only getting 45 down and 25 up

Update:

Just swapped out a short coax cable and swapped in a longer coax cable from my closet. (I was trying to run a 10ft cat6 ethernet cable, but it didn't reach).

Sourceforge has me at 51/23

and

DSLreports has me at 60/27.

That's still on a wireless connection 15 ft away from the router. Going to try the cat6 cable now

Results for Cat6 cable directly plugged into the router:

Sourceforge has me at 123/26

DSLreports has me at 124/26

Looks like I'll be ordering a 30 ft cat6 cable.

FYI the router is from xfinity. Its an 802.11n   ARRIS Model number: TG862G

I tried the dslreports site and got similar numbers to the Xfinity test site for my Wifi signal. I have optical DSL and actually only pay for 12 Mbs (minimum) broadband. I got 17.81 on dslreports site and 17.6 on the Xfinity site this time. Typical for me at different times of day is 16 to 19 download. I have posted more information on the other post about trusting Xfinity test.

That is an ancient XB1 model gateway that is very well known for having pitiful WiFi performance and range !!! There have been tens of thousands of posts here and at other help boards over the years indicating so !!

I was going to suggest replacing the device as well.  There's no reason even a 3-5 year old device wouldn't be able to handle a 100M connection.  Since you're paying for the modem each month just drop by the office and swap it out for a newer model.  30ft cable will be a good backup though if you need it.

OP. If you are going to get it swapped out, ask specifically for one of the latest "XB3" models.

The model numbers for the XB3 devices are here;

FYI I'm not paying for the modem each month, I bought it on amazon back in 2015-2016 because I didn't want to pay rent. I looked online to buy a newer modem but it seems they are harder to purchase from Amazon or Ebay nowadays.

Since I have a triple play (cable, internet and voice), can I just keep this modem and turn it into a bridge and get a different wifi router to broadcast the signal? If so, what 3rd party router is a good value?

Well, if you own it then that's a different situation.  It's easy to get CM's on any of those sites.  I ust got a MB8600 to upgrade to Gig services on Amazon w/ 2 day shipping.  Router's are easy to come by as well.  We ruled out the modem with the ethernet cable so, it's the WIFI side. You might be able to bridge the modem and then attach a router to it.  I'm not familiar with the specific model but, most of them allow you to bridge them.  Since you have a triple play Comcast will provide the MTA for the phone service so you wouldn't have to get a CM/MTA and could just get a simple setup modem/router if you want to take control of your network.  It depends on what you want to do and how much you're willing to invest but, if you went all in for router/wifi you could put something together for under $100.
