Hello.

I would like to purchase an EMTA modem rather than renting one.

It is my understanding that the only user owned EMTA modem comcast supports is the Arris TM722G and it must be purchased through a comcast kiosk at best buy.

I have read that in some areas, comcast does not allow user owned modems.

My question is, where can I find out the areas that comcast allows, or does not allow user owned modems.

My location is 98577.

I would like to find this information before driving the nearly 2 hrs(each way) to the nearest best buy with comcast kiosk.

Thanks for the help.

Here's the link of current Best Buy's with Connection Centers in them.  This usually stays current, but some Connection Centers have closed up shop.  Look for the Comcast rep in the tV section with the red or black Comcast shirt.

They have to be Comcast Connection Centers, and not just the kiosk.

A call in to confirm would probably be best. Here's a list you can look at. Not certain how "current" it is..

[Edited to remove link to a now *less than current* list.]

You might want to consider some of the experiences that people switching to customer owned equipment I have noted on my blog post about the experience. It sounds as if Comcast is making some changes...

Check out some of the recent comments on the blog post I did when I switched over. Things sound like they're definately in a state of flux. I'd definately call before making the trip.

The list at http://www.arrisi.com/consumer/_docs/ARRIS_Modems_Comcast_Xfinity_Best_Buy.pdf  is way out of date.

http://www.comcast.com/digitalvoicemodem  is presumably current.  There are no locations in the states of Michigan, Ohio, or Indiana.  Lots of other states too, those are just the ones near me.
