Remote not working properly

I had comcast installed on Wednesday (2 days ago). The cable box doesn't respond to the remote unless I'm 3 ft or less away from it. I sit on my couch that is maybe 8 ft from the box and it won't work at all. There is NOTHING in the path between the two that would get in the way. The TV responds with no issues. I have replaced the batteries and unplugged the unit for a while and plugged back in. Nothing seems to help.

Compact fluorescent lights and TV backlighting have both been known to interfere with commands from a TV remote control.

There could be interference with CFL (compact fluorescent bulbs) or any IR (infrared light) coming from the actual TV set.

If you have CFLs in the room, try turning them off and then trying the remote control to narrow down the issue.

From wikipedia below: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compact_fluorescent_lamp

Infra-red signals: Electronic devices operated by infra-red remote control can interpret the infra-red light emitted by CFLs as a signal, this limits the use of CFLs near televisions, radios, remote controls, or mobile phones.[85]

Re: Remote not working properly

I would take the remote to the closest Comcast office and exchange it.
