So what is the story with second or third TVs without a Comcast box? Can I get all of the same channels that I get with the box?

If you have digital starter or higher, and have been through the digital transition, in most area's you can get two "no charge" DTA's. Stop by your local Comcast office to pick them up.
Details at https://digitalnow.comcast.com/
Usually if your qualify, Comcast would have notified you at the time of the digital transiton.

They stepped being free like 2 or 3 years ago, which was 3 or 4 years after this topic was made. Nothing new here.
What are the "small DTAs" and are they free?
In most area's you will get the limited basic tier which is mostly your local network channels, shopping and PEG's.
There are some cities that are 100% encrypted, and you will not receive anything without either a DTA for a full cable box.
To receive all the same channels on each TV, you need a full cable box.
The small DTA's will get you Std Def versions of digital starter, but no On Demand, Music Choice, premiums, Sports & Entertainment & Digital Preferred..
