ethernet ports

I need more than the 2 ethernet ports that are onboard the new xfi advanced gateway. Is adding a fast switch the best route? Any recommendations? =Thanks!

I bought a Trendnet 8-port gigabit switch; works great.

There are lots of other make and models.

I only have one instance of that; I ran an ethernet cable from my computer room to my den and connected it to a 4-port gigabit switch for my TV, DVD player and a/v receiver.  I am not one to comment on this other to say that if you use multiple gigabit switches, there should not be any degredation.

I found more info that cleared up a question I had:

View information about the Gateway's Ethernet Ports.

The Gateway has 2 Gigabit (GbE) Ethernet Ports. When a device is connected to the Gateway with an Ethernet cable, you'll see an Active status for that port.

Re: ethernet ports

Have a similar question.  Received the new xFi Advanced Gateway modem, but sadly only 2 ethernet ports. Do I buy an ethernet hub or a network switcc (what's the difference)?  Any recommendations of a product I should purchase via Amazon?

I purchased the Trendnet 8-port gigabit switch.  Works great and I'm ready for gigabit service if it ever becomes standard.
