Xfinity mobile fraud / scam!

Xfinity mobile fraud / scam!

I recieved an email saying that I ordered Xfinity mobile and my order will be shipped soon.   I have tried repeatedly to reach someone at Xfinity to report this and cancel the order.    I keep getting transfered to phone numbers where I either get disconnected or are left on hold indefinitely.    The fraud department does not seem to be working to resolve this issue.    HELP!

This is soooo frustrating.

Re: Xfinity mobile fraud / scam!

I got the same type message today. Stayed on hold with fraud for about 30 mins before getting to talk with someome. Then they start asking questions to verify it is me. I was hesitant giving them info because I never placed any type of order.

Re: Xfinity mobile fraud / scam!

I just got 2 emails with the same thing. And I never placed an order. I chatted with someone from the xfinity mobile website and they were very suspicious...lots of spelling mistakes and not your typical customer service representative. Seems like a huge scam to me. He told me to call a certain number, but that the wait time is usually between 15-45 minutes which definitely does not seem typical for Comcast customer service. I know they try to keep wait times as short as possible, and I wouldn’t think they would broadcast such a long wait time. He said the only way to get it figured out is calling that number. Just seems very suspicious to me. I will be tracking my credit report and bank account.

Re: Xfinity mobile fraud / scam!

In looking more into this...I see that xfinity mobile has been added to my service (saw this on my xfinity account page), and I definitely did not initiate this.  Currently on hold with their fraud department (I think).  I'm hoping this gets resolved very quickly, because I'm very upset and I no longer trust Comcast as it look like multiple people are dealing with this issue and Comcast seems to be an unsecure company.

did you ever get a resolution to this problem, I am on the same boat. Some jerk ordered 3 iphone 8's on my account to the other side of the country

Re: Xfinity mobile fraud / scam!

I called them Tuesday and they said the mobile account would be cancelled and that I would receive an email in 48-72 hours that it was cancelled, but I didn’t. So I just chatted with someone from Xfinity mobile now to have them check out my account, and she said it’s been locked and marked as a comprised account and is under investigation by their fraud department. So I guess they are still working on it (and it sounds like they have been busy as others have had this same issue). She said I will receive an email when they get everything closed out and canceled, which is hopefully soon. But I’m glad they at least marked my account as compromised and locked it.

I changed my password, my security question, and added 2 layer security as I was told to do my their fraud department.

Re: Xfinity mobile fraud / scam!

This happened to me too... twice this week! I called on 12/16 and talked to the fraud department, they said the order would be canceled. I changed my password as suggested. I logged into my account today (12/19) and not only is fedEx still delivering two iPhones to someone in New York tomorrow (I’m in MD) but I got yet another “we received your order” email today with a new order! I called the fraud department... again... and they said they canceled the new order. I guess we’ll see. I don’t understand how this is possible. It seems really sketchy. Didn’t Xfinity think it was weird that these items were being sent out of state? They charged a 911 fee for my local county but are fine with shipping them nowhere near me. Why isn’t there some way to stop this from happening? It’s just bizarre. Should I call the Lockport, NY cops and ask them to intercept the delivery? Comcast doesn’t seem to be actually doing anything.

I am on day 16 of dealing with this, and am still waiting for an update.

Re: Xfinity mobile fraud / scam!

I gave up on Xfinity helping me and filed a local police report - hopefully they will work with the police in the town where the phones are being shipped to to intercept them today. It was driving me insane to just sit here and see the FedEx tracking on this fraudulent order, just getting closer and closer to its destination, to be received by crooks in my name. I even spoke to FedEx - Xfinity could have contacted them and had the packages returned to sender, but they did nothing! All they keep doing is telling me to change my password. Not helpful.

Re: Xfinity mobile fraud / scam!

Same thing just happened to me - three orders overnight. I was able to get thru (though had to navigate thru many options - none have a choice for mobile). 888-936-4968 (being transferred several times); and found this nbr on another thread that seems to be more directly their fraud dept - 888.565.4329.

Re: Xfinity mobile fraud / scam!

This might be the same type of scam that happens with Amazon. Someone sends a fake order to you hoping you take the package then return to the sender and that sender is not Xfinity it goes to the scammers address. After you do that Xfinity will charge you for excepting the package and you are out of luck. If you get a package that you did not order make sure to just refuse the package. IT'S A SCAM !!!!!!!!!

Re: Xfinity mobile fraud / scam!

Yes you should absolutely file a police report. What no one seems to be getting from the bunch of BS these customer service reps are telling us is that we are now required to prove WE ARE NOT the scammers! You will be required to file a report and mail a bunch of documentation, one of which is a copy of the police report you filed for the incident along with a copy of your license or passport (like I want these people to have MORE of my PII) so they can review your claim/account. It took me several days of calling, being hung up on and calling back again and again to find this out! They also aren’t telling you that they can stop ordered that haven’t shipped but they can’t remove the mobile service from your account! You are now financially liable for a service you never requested! This all happened to me when I was on vacation and not checking my email so I didn’t have a clue until I got the text message saying thanks for setting up my mobile account. My guess is that one of the 7 iPhones ordered in my name was delivered and successfully set up. I can’t even find any information in my account about that order but I was able to screen shot 7 other back orders for iPhone X to an address in Texas, I live in New Jersey! Clearly this is a HUGE data breach and Comcast or xfinity is playing stupid to avoid a media frenzy in light of the launch of their new Mobile Service division which as a company, they need to succeed to stay in business against Verizon whose created a virtual monopoly for themselves which I also thought was illegal in this country! Shame on you xfinity for ruining thousands of people’s credit and Christmas holiday! I can’t wait to read your name smeared across the www and you can count on me telling what’s going on here to anyone and everyone who is willing to listen.

I got the same thing, but 3 orders. I called Xfinity themselves for the fraud department because I kept getting bogus numbers to call... I received a number from them to cancel my orders 1-844-335-8719.

Xfinity mobile is a separate bill . seems scammy to me. I called to place my order. Ask for xfinity mobile billing maybe.

Re: Xfinity mobile fraud / scam!

Yes I was able to cancel the iPhone orders too, but if you look closely at your actual account “Mobile Service” is still enabled. If your fine with having an additional service that’s not being used attached to your account then it’s no big deal. As long as you don’t order phones yourself and start using them you won’t see anything added to your monthly bill. I personally feel like it’s an open invitation for someone to try to order phones again so I asked they remove it from my account. They can’t, or won’t remove it unless you file a report with the Federal Trade Commission, your local or state police and send them notarized copies of those documents along with your ID. I also read through the terms that are suddenly attached to my account because of the mobile service account I never requested and it appears my very simple service has suddenly become 20 pages of legal jargon that’s full of additional fees for everything.

I’m beyond dissatisfied with this company and will most assuredly be using another provider as soon as I’m certain my identity is secure and I won’t be charge for things I didn’t buy.

Re: Xfinity mobile fraud / scam/BREACH

I feel exactly the same way! The problem is, they can legally hold us responsible for these accounts despite the fact we never requested them so if you don't care about your credit score now or in the future the options and clear choice for resolving this nightmare is to close your account and get service elsewhere. However, if you don't want bad credit because of their incompetance, you will be forced to jump through these ridiculous hoops to clear your name from liability for something you  never requested. I've spent HOURS already and am not even half way through the process! They also recommend you get it taken care of 2 weeks, what about holidays when offices aren't open? In order to submit all the things they're asking for within 2 weeks of the date your account was hacked is a full time job and extremely unlikely if you have a full time job you're already trying to manage! The stress and worry this has caused is making it difficult to move on to what needs to take place to fix it.

All I can say is once my account is straight with them, I will be promptly canceling my service so my personal information isn't hosted on their servers any longer!

Looks like I got scammed too. Just found out. Been on hold for 30 minutes and have to leave for work soon. Very frustration. I wish there was a simple button on their website to hold the fraudulant orders until I can get through and have it revoked. Will try agian tomorrow. Hope it won't be too late. If this doesn't get resolved easily I will be moving to a different provider.

Re: Xfinity mobile fraud / scam/BREACH

Why do these threads keep getting “moved” to a different location in the forum? Every time this happens and I click the link where the thread is supposed to be I land on a page that says I don’t have permission to view that content! If I’m posting on the thread that is redirected, shouldn’t I be able to continue to post/view new posts to the thread once it’s moved?
Also, Ken - I mean no offense to you personally as I know your trying to do the job Comcast has given you, but the places we are being told to call DONT CARE WHETHER WE HAVE BEEN THE VICTIM OF FRAUD! They are unhelpful, difficult to reach and dismissive about the issue. As if ANY of us WANTED to be victims or waste our time calling them to try to resolve something we had no stake in initiating in the first place. Here’s another piece of advice you may be able to pass on, it’s unprofessional to promise your customers something you have no intention of delivering. By that l mean, STOP TELLING US WE’LL GET AN EMAIL OR A PHONE CALL OR THAT YOU’VE FROZEN OUR ACCOUNT OR CANCELED THE FRAUDULENT ORDER, when these things are not true and you have no intention of following through. It’s bad enough we have to deal with this issue but even more insulting when your Fraud Department’s CSR team isn’t able to give you a straight answer. This scam/fraud has been going on for 6 months, at least, yet your company is STILL taking orders that are being scheduled to ship to a different STATE than the primary service account holder lives in, why is that? To me that seems like a fairly easy way to eliminate at least HALF of these fraudulent orders to begin with - just change the mobile service policy to “all new cellular orders will be shipped to the address on file, no exceptions”. I’m willing to bet you your true mobile customers won’t have a problem with this requirement since it’s designed to protect them. it’s really easy to program into the web form that the ship to address HAS TO match the bill to address. Come on Comcast, it’s not ROCKET SCIENCE!

Jody2, I appreciate your feedback. I will send this to my leadership. Unfortunately, we do not investigate claims of fraud via the corporate forums teams which is why I  posted the info to CSA which is the corporate team that handles issue with fraud.

I'm not sure what post you are referring to, but some posts are removed from threads if the thread was recently locked. If a member of the forums team is going to look into your issue, we sometimes move your thread to it's own thread to work with you there.

I also have had now 7 phone calls with comcast on this same issue. THIS IS ridiculous. I have 2 cell phones that I DID not order that they are trying to charge to me. The guy put his name and mailing address. FIND HIM AND CHARGE HIM!

Re: Xfinity mobile fraud / scam/BREACH

The exact same thing happened to me in August 2017 I’ve been working to get it cleared since then and the worst part is I actually have phone service with Xfinity Mobile so if I want to keep my services connected I’m forced to pay the monthly charge for a phone I did not order. I made a police report, I have the woman’s name, address and phone number. I even texted her and she admitted that she ordered the phone but none of that is good enough for Comcast. My opinion; they should’ve never gotten into the mobile phone service game.

Re: Xfinity mobile fraud / scam!

I am in the same boat.  Did you ever receive help?  There were 3 phones ordered on my account sent to ND!!!  I called 4 days ago and was told not to worry they would remove the phones.  I checked today and 2 more phones have now been shipped on my account to TX!!

Frequent Visitor

Re: Xfinity mobile fraud / scam!

I didn’t receive help beyond them removing the phones from my account. Even that took 6 calls to various numbers and waiting on hold only to be disconnected or transferred. Once the phones were removed I noticed the mobile account was still listed under my account so I called yet again and asked they remove Xfinity Mobile Service and they said they can’t! Of course I asked WHY and they put me on hold again and disconnected me! I called right back and someone told me the only way they would remove the mobile service is if I filed out their Fraud Affidavit which requires I take time off from work to go file a police report, file a report with the Federal Trade Commission, get both reports notarized, make copies of my utility bill showing my name and address as the person who lives in my house and my ID or passport and write a letter explaining why I feel I have been the victim of a scam and mail all this in to their Fraud Division for review. I explained I felt more than a little uncomfortable sending them any copies of anything with both my name, address and drivers license number on them in light of how poorly they protected my info/account to this point. They said they couldn’t do anything else until I submitted all that stuff the only problem is this happened a few days before Christmas so offices were closed plus I got the flu and was sick in bed for an entire week! Now that I’m finally over that we got hit with enough snow to close all businesses down and I’m not risking life and limb to beg them to do the right thing! I hope you get your situation resolved with less headache!
Also the phones that were orders were supposed to ship to TX - to be honest, I think this is some kind of inside job - there are way too many coincidences for it not to be.
New Poster

Re: Xfinity mobile fraud / scam!

This does seem to be an inside job.

From my experience, earlier this year, it took me contacting the FTC in order to get ANY response back from Xfinity Mobile team.  To date, me account has still to be corrected.  It still has my information listed as the scammers set it up.  I live in Michigan and they blindly allowed an order of THREE new iphones to be shipped to Arizona!

At least they removed the charges from my account, but still.  Xfinity has not shown their due-diligence in correcting these issues from happening.  I think that it is time to initiate a class-action lawsuit.  Yes, I agree it won't help us who have lost, but it will force them to close the hole that they refuse to close.  It is becoming too often that our personal and financial information is compromised and it is time we start holding these companies noses to the flame.  If they won't make it happen themselves, we need to stand together and force them to.

Frequent Visitor

Re: Xfinity mobile fraud / scam!

I agree. It’s both the consumer and the companies responsibility to make sure fraudulent transactions aren’t allowed to happen, however, since as a consumer we don’t get the opportunity to respond until the last step in the Xfinity Mobile set-up process, it’s difficult to take a proactive approach. On the other hand Xfinity knows the instant an account has mobile service added to it or the moment anew cell phone is ordered so they have the ability to stop the fraud at the onset of the activity by adding security features to their set-up and acquisition processes yet haven’t done so in the 6 - 8 months this scam has been going on. That’s simply bad business and unacceptable!

Re: Xfinity mobile fraud / scam!

I have had the same thing happen to me.  Never had an xfinity mobile account but SOMEHOW one opened in my name without my consent and 2 iphone Xs were ordered to another state.  How the heck do I get this resolved?  The person used some other credit card that isnt in my name so I assume it is stolen or something.  How in the world is Comcast so negligent to allow these obviously fraudulent orders?  Am I at risk of having my credit affected or my account charged even though they used some other credit card to pay?

Frequent Visitor

Re: Xfinity mobile fraud / scam!

Yes you are and we are all here because Comcast has not been forthcoming with what to do. There is a Fraud Affidavit you’re required to fill out which subsequently requires you fill out a report with the Federal Trade Commission and your State or Local Police Department. You have to get all that notarized and send them a copy of a bill in your name along with a copy of your drivers license and if all this wasn’t daunting enough you then have to call the credit reporting agencies and report the incident and decide whether you want you credit frozen. This scam isn’t exclusively Comcast targeted. When Equifax leaked everyone’s personal information the hackers of the world jumped in and have been testing any and every avenue they can think of to steal from us without breaking into our houses or holding us up at gunpoint! It is however Comcast’s responsibility to safeguard the information we entrust them with and this had been going on for at least 6 months and they’ve done nothing to change their business practice, form a unified approach to resolving these or adding security to our accounts. Good luck with your issue. I found out today my local police won’t file a report because I caught the cell phones before the phones were delivered so the was nothing stolen from me. The mobile service is still on my account which I didn’t authorize but they won’t even entertain removing it until you fill out the affidavit which asks for a police report! I feel like I’m standing in front of a wall repeatedly hitting my head against it.

Re: Xfinity mobile fraud / scam!

This is happeing to a lot of people and here is how Xfinity and other companies are playing it..... they will admit that your account was subject to fraudulent activity but they will NOT admit that the the source of your compromise is themselves instead they will give you a speach on "you" changing all your passwords and "you" keeping your malware defenses up to date, blah, blah.

Since there has been major breaches from Equifax and others this is possible but in this case  I think that Xfinity/Comcast data was breached and there in no coinincedence that millions of Xfinity customers are getting fraudlent orders and credit checks.

AND what about  XFinity security practices as they are not proactively notifying customers when  someone makes 9+ Xfinity mobile orders from states that the customer does not live and hard inquires on your credit  which is now your responsilbilty to have removed!  When a customer has to initiate an inquiry before they acknowledge fraud I smell deception!

This just happened to me on 1/7/18. I have spent HOURS on the phone with Xfinity. They won't believe me! Someone ordered phones in my name (I live in Colorado) and the phones are going to Pennsylvania! I would keep on them! I found out someone also opened a card in my name for payment of the initial fee. I had to file a police report in PA, CO, and FL (where the card was listed). I keep getting hung up on at Xfinity, or transferred.

Re: Xfinity mobile fraud / scam!

Ok so let's add up my time spent on this matter due to a breach in Xfinity's security or I almost think it could be an inside job!

3 days spent worrying and losing sleep over this issue (so far). 8 hours on the phone with Xfinity. 4-5 hours on the phone/online with: Identitytheft.gov, police departments in Colorado, Florida, and Pennsylvania, time spent filling out reports online, time spent going through my credit report, time spent contacting my bank to make sure my accounts were secure, time spent putting fraud alerts on my credit. 45 minutes spent filling out Xfinity's fraud paperwork, getting a third party bill together and finding somewhere to copy my drivers licesnse. 34 minutes spent at the bank waiting to get this form notarized.

I would say that Xfinity owes me money back for my time spent away from work and my family dealing with this nonsense!

Re: Xfinity mobile fraud / scam!

Well I can be added to the list of people dealing with this same problem. I’ve been on the phone with the fraud department everyday for the last week and they still have done nothing to fix this issue. Whoever created the account in my name used a stolen credit card and placed 2 separate orders for a total of 5 iPhones. I didn’t get any notification and there wasn’t even a credit check for the first order of 3 iPhones that was placed on November 27 when the account was first created. Never knew it was happening until they placed a second order for 2 more iPhones on January 6 with the same stolen credit card.  That’s when I got a notification that my credit was checked and also got the email about the order followed by text messages welcoming me to Xfinity Mobile. I am 99% certain they didn’t have my account password. I use a password generator and my password was 30 random letters (capital & lowercase), numbers, & symbols. I’m not saying it was impossible that they would have used my password, but it is extremely unlikely. This smells like a data breach on Comcast’s end based on the shear number of identical complaints from people all over the country...

This has become extremely frustrating and time consuming. I sit on hold for 30-45 minutes every time I call to see what’s going on and why the account is still active. It can’t be anymore clear that this is fraud based on the stolen credit card being used. I’ve been an xfinity internet and tv customer for several years. That is very quickly about to come to an end and I’ll take my business elsewhere. This is ridiculous.

It can’t be anymore clear that this is fraud based on the stolen credit card being used. I’ve been an xfinity internet and tv customer for several years. That is very quickly about to come to an end and I’ll take my business elsewhere. This is ridiculous.

Comcast only finally encrypted the "secret question" a few days ago, so I strongly suspect that with an account #, name & address  thieves were able to use social engineering to break in (possibly from the admitted breach in 2015, Although with so many new clients reporting being hacked this seems like a new breach). It honestly shocks me how long this has been allowed to go on and how badly this issue was handled. I have been following this for months and still can't believe Comcast has yet to comment on it.

Re: Xfinity mobile fraud / scam!

I can totally relate and share your thoughts about changing providers once this whole thing is sorted out and my name is free from any possible monetary obligations for cell phones or service I never ordered. What’s even crazier is that, despite the fact that there are at least 100 people across the country with IDENTICAL SITUATIONS who have reported this problem, jumped through hoops and lived to tell about it (albeit as a dissatisfied customer) they continue to take the position that WE ARE THE ONES TO BLAME! That somehow this random group of people all over the country all decided to share their password simultaneously on the dark web but not before we all got together for a POW-WOW to come up with what we would say, collectively, so we could avoid having Comcast swiftly swing the hammer of justice down upon us and....oh wait, Comcast isn’t swinging anything, nor are they putting any effort into catching or stopping this situation from taking place AND most of us have absolutely NOTHING to show for our efforts. I know since I don’t live in Texas, my internet/cable tv service is halfway across the country, I certainly wouldn’t have gotten to enjoy those 5 shiny new iPhone10’s had they shipped to the address of the person who probably bought my information off the dark web for 50 bitcoin and a carton of cigarettes from the guy who hacked Equifax!
Seriously Comcast, how realistic does that sound that ALL OF US were negligent and left our password laying around or gave it to our maniacal evil neighbor just because he asked to borrow it? Stop the unnecessary stress, wasted time and frustration your creating for your PAYING CUSTOMERS and FIX THE REAL PROBLEM!

Re: Xfinity mobile fraud / scam!

Has this issue been resolved for anyone yet?  Along with many of my neighbors, I'm  wondering if the only way to assure myself of not falling victim to this--is just to finally move on to another provider.... It seriously stinks, as we have particularly poor choices here on the shoreline of CT. That said, I'm prepared to move on and take a lot of people with me.

Re: Xfinity mobile fraud / scam!

No answer is answer enough for me... Shame on Comcast for putting  so many clients through this. The folks affected by this are so numerous and their distress is documented every where (social media is awash with  their problems)  and your response is just pathetic..

Again: Shame on you!
