Poor Cell Signal Strength

I just activated my LG X Charge and Samsung Note 8 phones on Xfinity Mobile. Overall, cell signal strength is strong. However, in my office, on the outskirts of a metropolitan area, cell signal is basically non-existent. The X Charge has 1-2 bars of 3G and the Note 8 has 1 bar of 1x.

 

Prior to this I was on Cricket Wireless (AT&T MVNO) with full strength. Is there anything I can do to help this situation or am I SOL? Is there a way to re-sync/re-register with Verizon towers to make sure I am getting proper signal? Any options? It will be very hard to keep this service if my office mobile phone does not work in my office and I am unreachable.

jazzman161, have you tried turning airplane mode on and then off? This will help your phone provision itself to find the closest tower.

jazzman161, that is the most familiar way I know to reconnect to the closest tower. Often times, if your phone is displaying 1x, you are in an area that hasn't had the 4G upgrade and 1x will show because it's the network that is processing the data.

In that past I know some carriers have an option where you can text/call a code *XXX and it will help reprovision the phone.

Is that an option?

Possibly. But try this at your own risk. I just tried the short code:

 

##72786#

 

and it worked on my phone.

Not really sure, just thought a disclaimer was appropriate. This isn't a specific XFINITY Mobile short code--I just did a quick search online and found that code. I tried it on my phone. My service dropped out, went to 2G then 3G, then 4GLTE within 1-2 minutes.

Did you do this through the dialer? I typed in the code and dialed and it tried to make a call to that number, which could not be completed.

Yes, I did. The original dialer. So if you're using an app as your mail dialer, it won't work. 

 

Did it show a "USSD  code running" message? 

 

Did you include all the pound symbols exactly?

The LG X Charge is brand new. No apps loaded. In using the Phone app and copied your code directly.
I didn't receive any message. It just tried to call it as if it was a regular number.

FYI I also tried the various dialer codes on the Samsung Note 8 and I had the same issue as with the LG. The phones are treating them as phone numbers and trying to call and then I get the voice message "the call cannot be completed as dialed"

Did you punch "#" before the numbers? You need to hit "#" first otherwise your phone will think you're trying to just dial telephone numbers.

I punch in "##72786#" and then hit phone icon

 

I've also done "#*#*72786#" and a few other random combinations and everytime, both phones just try to call like it's a regular phone number

Pocketgeek came preinstalled on the Note 8 but I haven't opened it.

It is evidently on the new LG X Charge that ships cause I helped my friend set up hers yesteray and it was already there. I just got it from Google Play (I think) and installed it.

In my office, on the Note 8, with 1 bar of 3G connection. These are the Pocket Geek results under Speed Test:

 

Connected to cellular: XFINITY Mobile CDMA - EvDo rev. A cellular

 

When I start the speed test, it can only get a ping of about 400-700ms. It never gets to testing the download & upload speed streams.
