Grayed Photos and Errors (iOS)

Xfinity connect 6.4 has started to return an error message "unable to process your request, please try again" every time I open the app and check mail on my iPad and iPhone.   It does not seem to affect things, but it is annoying.


Even more annoying is that most of the photos on the camera rolls of the two devices are grayed out when I want to send them.   Many of the photos were imported into the camera roll from other sources, but appear correctly in every other app.
