x1 remote app not working on new X1 TV box

A tech came today and installed an x1 HD set top box w/no DVR function, our choice. Now I downloaded the X1 Remote app from the Play store, I click on some buttons after signing into the account, and I get an error message " there was an error with the last command, please try and resend".   . I have reinstalled the app 2x's.  On initial installation on June 20th, I downloaded the app to my smartphone, and it worked. But the the tech  installed the wrong box. I then changed at at Comcast store, and got just an HDTV converter box that did not give me the X1 platform that I was paying. THen today the Tech came out again and installed to x1 box I originally signed up for.

 

Any thoughts?  Not sure if this is a issue or not, he left the Silver remote with Red button, instead of leaving us the XR Remote we originally had on the original install?
