slow choppy Xfinity video

Suddenly Xfinity videos are not buffering properly.  Lots of stops and starts.  Choppy.  Slow.  I cleaned out my cache, deleted cookies, defragged.  YouTube plays fine.  Videos attached to emails play fine.  What's going on with Xfinity?

My video is extremely choppy.  It plays for about 2 seconds, and then stalls for about 2 seconds, plays for 2 seconds, stalls for 2 seconds......  this is really annoying!  How do  get this to stop?

Same choppyness here.  Just started recently.  I can pull down 25mbit/3mbit all day everyday, yet xfinity online is choppy.  I also work in IT so Im not some Joe off the street running carbonite or torrents in the background. 

 

This just started a few weeks ago.  Was watching gold rush perfectly fine in HD, then had to bump the setting down to auto, to get it to stop buffering, now almost all that I watch I can no longer choose quality because it will hang up more then it plays, and auto goes back and forth between worse then standard def and standard video quality and then hangs.  Currently trying to watch some HBO ondemand and unable to:

It was a great addition to the service, when it worked.

Its also worth pointing out that your "speed" setting is absolutely ridiculous and unwatchable. Its looks like 240 video at most. Why would you even allow your customers to stream such at such horrible quality? If you can't stream at least 480 video you should just stop playback and pop one of your many error messages onscreen.

 

My monitor resolution is set at 1920x1200. This may be a bit higher than your average customer, but you can't honestly think stretching 240 lines into 1200 is going to be acceptable. Its so garbled and pixelated you cant even read onscreen text.

netflix works great, connection is good but xfinity content constantly underbuffers.  

 

this is pretty outrageous given how expensive the service is.

I am having the same issue.  It isn't restricted to my pc or internet connection or browser either.  I have the issue at home on my PC using chrome browser and at work on my work machine using Internet Explorer 9.  The videos chop and skip ahead for the entire duration of the movie/show once it starts.  I have most recently had this issue with So You Think You Can Dance, Masterchef, The Mindy Project and the movie Salt.  The only commonality I can find is that they are all Fox broadcasts (I think FX where Salt is, is a Fox station.)

Similar thing happening with So You Think You Can Dance, episodes 4 and 7.  First approximately 15 minutes play fine, then video skips quickly through scenes making it un-watchable.  Other episodes play fine.  Tried it on Google Chrome and Safari.

I'm also having problems with a video on the xfinitytv site. In episode 7 of the current season of So You Think You Can Dance, at approximately the 30 minute mark, just after a commercial break, both video and audio get very choppy. This continues for the rest of the show. (I checked by clicking on various points on the progress bar - didn't watch the whole 1.5 hrs left.) I have yet to stream any video here in Bellingham, WA without having playback cosistently pause.  I can stream from other services just fine.

 

Comcast is failing to deliver the services offered.

I have this problem, too. It just started within the last month. I have to use the "Speed" setting for video playback quality and it looks awful. If I use "Auto", the video stops for about a second every minute. If I use the "Quaility" setting, I might as well not watch it. Currently watching "Syriana". The last thing I watched was "This Means War" on 07/02/2013 with the "Quality" setting and the picture and speed were just fine.

This seems to be a regional issue, or maybe a rolling problem. I had this problem for about 7 months, but in the last 2 or 3 weeks it seems to have been fixed...for me at least. Video quality is still sub-par, but at least I can watch without eyestrain now.

 

Its hard to believe that even after so many months of this, Comcast has yet to address the issue publicly on these forums. You'd think they would be nicer to us considering their days are so numbered as a content middleman. If I was a Comcast bigwig I would be terrified...the internet makes "content providers" like Comcast, Dish, etc. completely unnecassary. How desperate of a move is it to force us to "login" with our cable provider before we watch a show on a network's website? I'd happily give the networks my money straight up if it meant I didn't have to deal wth Comcast ever again. I suppose it would be one thing if they deserved my support, but Comcast has treated its customers like fools for decades, its time for them to go extinct. 10 years from now, at best Comcast will be nothing more than a pay station, taking our money on the networks' behalf...and the public will be all the better for it.

It is a total waste of time to complain to comcast/xfinity. They are to busy making comercials for tv telling everyone how FAST they are to bother fixing their problems with slow vid play back.

This worked for me:

 

- Right-click on the video and go to "Settings" (brings up Adobe Flash Player Settings).

- Click the folder tab (Local Storage).

- Change the setting to 10MB (This is the amount of info that Xfinity can store on your machine).

- Restart the video.

 

I also turned off Hardware Acceleration in the disply setting.

I have tried to playback video on a Core i5 (3.2 GHz!) & three core 2 duos, all with dedicated graphics cards, all of which until recent history worked perfectly with comcast video playback, and to my dismay for some reason NONE of these machines can handle it (though every Android device I own made in the past two years can handle it). It's nonsense. Fix this, Comcast, it's going to be the reason I cancel service when my rates go up next month. And I'm not posting the output of of that diagnostic page as it contains an IP address and other readily identifying information that you shouldn't be broadcasting to total strangers any more than you do already. This whole thing needs to convert to Silverlight, because whatever HD video format you're using isn't playing nice with the patch job that Adobe Flash has become over the years. 

 

This is seriously a failure, Comcast. At least pretend like you care.

I am having the same issue as others described here.

 

Comcast: Fix this.  I would think that as online streaming chips away at your traditional customer base, you would be more committed to retaining subscribers by offering the best possible experience in your online offerings.  Seeing as YOU are my internet service provider, and you seem to be so pleased with yourself about your internet speeds "crushing" your competition, we can't really blame my internet connection.  God knows I pay enough and yet, this seems to be a fairly systemic problem that has gone on for several months and yet you have no inclination to fix it.  

 

I've come to expect nothing else.

Don't you dare post in this thread again unless you have an explanation of why XfinityTV has been so horrible for more than a year now, and what Comcast is doing to improve streaming tech for its customers.

 

This is obviously a Comcast problem, so don't even think about asking one more of us for our personal info.

Choppy and laggy on both Firefox and IE. Netflix plays fine. Hulu plays fine, but Hulu shows through Xfinity are laggy and out of sync. tried changing Auto to Low video. still choppy. Tried just High. Choppy. put it back on Auto....Choppy.  Bad when I can find/watch videos on my phone easier than online.

 Just changed from DirectTv to you guys and kinda regretting it.

Going to this link doesn't work either. All I get is an error message which is exactly what I get when I try to watch a show. It took a few tries just for me to respond on this. We pay so much for this service and when I'm not home I would like to watch my shows online. It's frustrating because it's not getting fixed. This has been going on for me for awhile now. Instead of asking to include the link to the show that isn't working, why not try to find a solution. The ads are running fine. Other videos on my computer are working with no problem. It's just Xfinity that has the problem. Would be great if it could get fixed already.

I have all the same problems including constant crashing pages - IE, Chrome, Opera, Firefox all same problems.  I use share tv, abc.com, xfinity, netflix and hulu.  I get disconnected on my calls to comcast because I use the internet!  Pages are always needing to be recovered.  Comcast techs visited my home for a fee a long time ago and blamed my computer so I bought a new one and the problems with slow loading pages, poor quality playback, all still the same.  I laughed when I got the email from comcast saying my speed has been increased!  I have Xfinity blast and it's snail slow loadng pages.  I do all my cleaning, adaware, spybots search / destroy, Eusing Registry etc to no avail.

 

Sometimes shows play.  Most of the time I have problems.

 

I'm sure windows 8 is a huge problem.  I was fine with win XP.  I can't even click the X to close windows without them freezing.  I have nonstop problems with the operatiing system as well  Perhaps there are multiple issues at play?

 

My problems are on Hulu, ABC, ShareTV, Netflix and other TV stations any shows.

You people that ask Comcast for support for choppyness or when the program halts and asks you to refresh - these problems have been going on since 2009 and Comcast has not made one iota of progress.

 

Why?

 

Figure it out.  SyFy has a great program on - choppy, stops, finally won't run at all.

 

Go to the Weather Channel or Faux Noise and all is great!  Full clarity, no buffering, etc. etc. etc.  EVERY TIME>

 

They know what it is.  My personal opinion is that they degrade areas because they can't handle the capacity but are, of course, Conservatives, so they will lie and cheat and not give a darn about us.

 

They get more subscribers and just degrade more and more instead of increasing bandwidth.

 

The only other explanation is that the company is run by Sarah Palin, Ted Cruz or one of the other GOP Clown Car morons.

Obviously all the copying of identifiable information had done NOTHING to resolve the problem. In the hundreds and YEARS of users replies they they are experiencing the same problem, I have not found ANY solutions or suggestions! Just requests to make the users breach their security!

My household is having the same issues when streaming xfinity on their laptops...what's with that...pretty much andy video and also live it starts unsynching voice and video. Its a mess.

Yep the problem with playing OnDemand videos on Desktop still exists. This son of a gun XFINITY didn't bother to resolve the problem.  Xfinity knows there is no competition so that they can linger the resolution like a rougue Ba*ta*d. They s*ck up all other cable competitors in my area. now you don't have any choice but to stay with xfinity.

It needs a simple fix the issue is with buffering the streaming video which shouldn't be a rocket science to resolve.
