Watch ESPN iPhone App - Unable to play video

I am trying out the new Watch ESPN app on iPhone and when clicking on Watch Now I get an error message stating "Access to this content requires a television subscription.  Please contact your TV proider to subscribe".

 

Is there a seperate subscription required to watch on the ESPN app?

I will throw out a few points until ComcastJoe gets into the office on Monday.

 

Your home network must be using Comcast DNS settings, typically these days, 75.75.75.75 for primary and 75.75.76.76 for secondary.  The Adobe authenticaion doesn't seem to work on other DNS providers.

 

When you installed the app, the app would ask for your TV provider and then your primary Comcast logon and password.  This is the part that tells the app you are a ESPN subscriber on Comcast.  Once the authentication is setup, then authentication for the app is transparent.

 

If the above is all in place, then it could boil down to a code issue on your account that ComcastJoe can get fixed next business week.

i'm having the same issue with the app on my iphone. i do have cable boxes with on demand accesss in my home and espn is working on all the boxes.i have 3 boxes.

i am able to sign into app and when i try to watch something i get the same error message  "Access to this content requires a television subscription.  Please contact your TV proider to subscribe".

Do you have a set top box with On Demand in your home?

When I click on the link to play the video on espn3 on my iphone, it says unable to play video "null" whats the meaning of that ? Is it being resolved ?

Hello- I have the same problem. It is new for me not to be able to play all videos on the WatchESPN app using  my Ipad. I had been doing just fine until I upgraded both Iphone and Ipad to iOS 5.1.1. Now I either get the "null" message or the app "crashes" when I try to play live streaming ESPN 3 events. When I downloaded the upgrade to iOS 5.1.1 via ITunes there was an accompanying request that I download another program that would somehow affect my communication settings for the better. Not sure whether this got uploaded or what its supposed to do. Help me ComcastJoe.

Hi all,

 

If you are getting a "null" error message, please uninstall then reinstall the app.

 

If it is still not working, please try another Wi-Fi connection.

 

Also, where are you trying to use this app from? What type of network? (Home, Work, Public: like a coffee shop, etc.

Same issue here - I'm getting the null message for the ESPN feed and two ESPN3 feeds (NCAA Track & Field, which is only on ESPN3, and US v. Antigua & Barbuda soccer game, which is also on ESPN). ESPN2 comes through fine though, as do all the other live ESPN3 feeds and the recorded ESPN3 feeds that I've tried.

 

Re-install didn't change anything for me either.

 

Oh, and the ESPN feed comes through just fine on the computer, so the problem must be with the app.

Hi!  I'm trying to login and watch Wimbledon on the app or on my computer.  ESPN is saying that I must be on my home internet connection to watch?!?!?!?  

 

This is new.  I've used the app and my computer from the same location on numerous occasions.  Please help!

Try logging out and then log back in and then try again.

Thanks for your prompt reply.  I've tried logging out and back in on both ESPN & Comcast.  I've tried different browers and I've restarted my computer.  I've also tried re-installing the App but nothing is working for either.

Try deleting your cookies and cache and then try again.

Ok, that worked!  My computer is now able to watch but the App is still not working...  Smiley Sad

 

Sadly the App is much more important than my computer.  Any suggestions??

On Adroid, I was able to get it to stream video and resolve the "Unable to play video - null" error by logging out and back in again (under settings).

I signed up for Comcast TV two days ago.  I am using a cable card with a TiVo Series 3.  That part is working well.

 

However, on watchespn.com and on the wathespn app on iPad and iPhone, I get the following error after trying to play espn or espn2 when I log in with my comcast account:

 

"Access to this content requires a television subscription. Please contact your TV provider to subscribe."

 

I uninstalled and reinstalled the app and that didn't work.  I emptied cache (on the computer) and that didn't work.  Anything else I can try?  Has my account just not registered the TV access yet?  I am able to watch espn from xfinitytv.com, but that doesn't help with the mobile devices.

Try watching our ESPN feed from XFINITY.com/TV and let me know if you are getting the same error message.

That is the Trick.

 

Had the Null error on my Droid 2 Global.  Did the logout and login and that did the trick.  One question.  Why is MNF blackedout on my device?

Due to rights differences, Monday Night Football is only available on ESPNnetworks.com and the WatchESPN application on tablets.

Hi,

 

I'm having trouble signing into my account on the iphone app - the app asks me to choose my provider, and when I choose comcast it asks me to log in.  I put in my login and password, I hit sign in, and the app just erases the fields.  It doesn't sign in, it just erases what I wrote.

i have the same issue. I used to be able to wath ESPN and ESPN 2 on the iphone App, but now i keep getting error message to call subscriber as its not in my pckage. I am only able to view ESPN 3.

 

I have been working with someone at Comcast (xtn 17774) but after 5 days of troubleshooting still no fix

I am also having problems with the espn now app I was able to watch espn on my iPad yesterday (1/1/2013) but not today getting the network not included in your subscription error. I am watching espn right now on my computer (Windows 7) from the xfinitytv.comcast.net link. I can watch it on my iMac using the same link, but if I try to go to watch espnnow.com I get the error that I need a subscription. On my iPhone I can't watch any espn channels. On both devices the dns servers are 75.75.75.75 and 76.76.76.76. I have uninstalled the app and reinstalled but still not working.  Our set top box works on espn. Any idea why the watch espn app and watch espn.com do not work?

It is available, but they are all for purchase. This has to be the lamest app. What good is it if you have to be on Comcast DMS servers? How can you do that when on cell network (AT&T for me)?

Uninstall the app and then install it again.

I have the same issue since one week ago. When I tried ESPN or ESPN2 I get this message: Unable to Play Video "This network is not included in your current television subscription. Please contact your TV provider to subscribe.

I been using Watch ESPN app since June 2012 without issues, also I can see the channels on my cablebox and ESPN On Demand. Who I can solve this? Thanks in advance ....

I'm having the same issues as everyone else. I was previously able to access Espn and Espn 2 on my IPad/IPhone but over the past month or so I get the same error about not having the channels on my tv subscription. I can access Espn going through the Xfinity site but also get the same error going through watchespn.com.

 

Any solutions yet.

I have tried uninstalling the app many times and it still doesn't work. Also I do have access to espn through my cable box. It's been a couple months now. What should I do?

yes ESPN works on my TV. I also can watch on the computer on Xfinity TV, but on the iPhone APP and iPad APP only ESPN 3 is working.

 

i still get error message "this network is not included in your current television subscription. Please contact you TV provider to subscribe"

I keep getting the same message as other people. Unable to play content. Apparently I don't have the right subscription package, even though I have comcast on demand and internet. This problem just started too which I think is weird. Any help?

I'm having the same problem too - worked fine for a long time since we got the ipad2.  Now, all off a sudden since saturday it gives the dreaded message: access to this needs a tv subscription, contact your service provider.  i have uninstalled, reinstalled, etc.   I can watch espn on my tv, but not on ipad or computer.  Also checked it using a computer at work, and got the same message.  It's really been a pain, because I loved being able to watch on the ipad.

After reading all the horror stories, I eventually downloaded and attempted log in (knucklehead that I am). I got some squirrelly looking Comcast user log in screen that allowed about six letters of my user name, then nothing more. I am an Xfinity/Comcast subscriber.Tried again and the same result. It's not worth the effort so I deleted. Is anyone paying attention to all the feedback?
