Upgrade Xfinity Player?

I try to watch a video, but the screen says I need to upgrade my Xfinity player.  There is no link or instructions on how to do this.  Here is the link where the error occured:

http://xfinitytv.comcast.net/tv/100-Moments-That-Changed-TV/172953/2153830495/100-TV-Moments-Episode...

Now what am I supposed to do?

Re: Upgrade Xfinity Player?

Comcast is using Microsoft Silverlight for the player now.  If you have a Windows PC and have Microsoft Update enabled,  then Silverlight gets updated automatically.

You can verify the version of Silverlight HERE the latest version is Silverlight 4 (4.0.60831.0)

Also you can get alot of information on the player on your pc http://xfinitytv.comcast.net/computer

Cut and paste the information in the report.

Re: Upgrade Xfinity Player?

Ok, it appears I now have a different problem.  My silverlight is installed properly, but my computer is a 64 bit system which apparently is NOT compatible.  Any ideas to get around this?

soulesmj,

Please go to xfinitytv.com/computer and I will be able to walk you through the steps of changing your browser to 32 bit mode.

Re: Upgrade Xfinity Player?

Except when I tried to reinstall Silverlight, it said it was already installed.

This report says otherwise...

Re: Upgrade Xfinity Player?

soulesmj,

Try completely removing all Silverlight files from your computer. Then go to your plug-ins page and if Silverlight is still there, disable it. Now try starting the video you are trying to watch again. Follow the steps and install the player.

Sometimes, old files can conflict with videos from playing. This clean re-install usually does the trick.

Let me know the results.

Thanks,
Joe

soulesmj,

Try using a different web browser and let me know if it works. This is not a permanent solution but it will help us narrow down your issue.

Re: Upgrade Xfinity Player?

soulesmj,

There seems to be something in Internet Explorer that is blocking videos from playing.

Try disabling any ad blocking plug-ins and try playing videos in IE again.

Let me know the results.

Xfinity Video Player Upgrade

Upgrade your Xfinity Player!

In order to watch On Demand Online videos with "HD-Like" picture quality, you need to install the new Xfinity Player

We're sorry, but for watching On Demand Online videos the following browsers are NOT officially supported at this time:

  • Windows XP: Safari 3/4
  • Windows Vista:  IE 6, Safari 3/4
  • Windows 7:  IE 6/7, Safari 3/4
  • Mac OS 10.4.11+:  IE 6/7/8, Chrome 4

Why do I get the message above -- I've completed all the steps on this thread. Yes Firefox works

Not all videos may be working on Internet Explorer 9 32-bit or 64-bit versions. Our team is currently working on this issue.

In the meantime, please use one of these browsers to watch videos:

Goggle Chrome 16

Safari 5.1

Firefox 9.0

Please follow this thread for more details and updates:
