I was watching this episode of Mad Men:
And I like many users am having the choppy playback/buffering problems described here:
I know the standard reply to all of these complaints was to post one's computer setup, so:
Yup, same problem here, trying to watch the last two seasons of Spartacus.
Here is my PC info and thanks for working on this, I know how rough IT troubles can be.
Keep yer heads up guys.
I have laptop Gateway NV54 that always has played videos flawlessly. Have not tried a lot over the past year, until about Feb 2013 - at that time, the episodes were really choppy - to the point of being unwatchable. I think Comcast has some serious issues - maybe they do this on purpose, but likely they don't know their own load, and so tney have no clues. There is NOTHING wrong with my laptop; all items are updated. AV disabled during movie-watching, STRIPPED-DOWN to the max - nothing but i.e. 9 and updated plug-ins, on Windows 7, 64-bit, all updates, all service packs and, again, NO ANTIVIRUS (during movies).
AND, I have a Roku as well and, you know what, the Roku recently has been acting weird, choppy, restaring - it's odd that BOTH of these things started happening over the past 2 months - it is not US, the customers, it is COMCAST having the issue. Personally, I think they are doing this on purpose, to try and force people to watch "traditional cable TV," instead of tv/movies via Internet streaming. ZIP CODE: 37122 - Mount Juliet. Why are you other people saying ZIP CODE UNKNOWN??? If you give your zip code, it might help these Comcast folks help resolve the issue(s). Oh, and I have Docsis 3 cable modem, latest greatest technology all around.
I'm running a brand new 3.4Ghz 8 core, 16gigs and a GTX560. I'm on the fast service too!
Yet here I am getting CHOPPY broken playback on anything I watch on Xfinity.
I ONLY watch this lousy site if Hulu plus doesn't have the show. Such as anything BBC
I literally get a short pause EVERY other second!! I STILL can not believe I pay for this lousy site!!
Ditto. While watching Mad Men last night I became a mad man. Every 20-30 seconds the video would stop and appear to buffer. I've had the same experieince while watching various other shows on XFinity. This is clearly a Comcast issue and not an end user issue.
I JUST received an E-mail saying they are looking into this issue. (After FAR Far more then a year and countless threads on the subject).
I would like to add that this doesn't seem to happen nearly as much on any of the "prime" TV shows I've watched over here. For example new episodes of the Simpsons, or Family guy ALMOST NEVER break up/ pause/ load/ buffer. It is typically other stuff such as Documentaries, ANYTHING ON BBC America.
If you try to watch an entire episode of Top Gear BBC?? The show actually IS 58 min long! Not like American TV where an hour show lasts 38 min, PLUS a ton of ads. BBC has no ads. So an hour show is an HOUR long. Yet SOMEHOW,... Watching that show here, it lasts 87 min on average. NOT because of Ads (Comcast does add). But mainly because of the INSANE number of pauses/ buffering/ loading issue.
I'm lucky in the sence that I don't break things I know are not the cause. Otherwise my keyboard and Monitor would be smashed every time I watch X-finity
Also Im being plagued with an almost fastford like experience where the video jumps and the audio cuts in and out. If I close page and revist it will always do this at the same exact point. Its much more annoying than the show stopping to "buffer" or whatever its doing, becuase its actually becomes IMPOSSIBLE to enjoy. Happend while watching salt on hbo and masterchef on fox. Salt was doing to stop to buffer problem and masterchef was not.
Bump. Is anyone looking into this? I have a great idea. Why don't you let the video buffer and show us the progress (like YouTube). Then at least we have some feedback.
Have you tried making sure you have updated versions of Silverlight and Flash players, as well as browsers?
Silverlight and Flash themselves are choppy. YouTube and Netflix have the same problem to some degree, though the Xfinity player is especially bad.
I have seen this from day one they rolled out this service. Its not your computer and its nothing to do with your speed. This is a problem with comcast and the codec and compresion that they use.
I got a brand-new Samsung Galaxy S5 and video is just as choppy on the Xfinity TV app.
When the connection is slow, it tells you it's buffering. Stuttering video has nothing to do with network speed.
@Zoycan That is NOT true. It is not the same with Silverlight! I have tried playing movies in HD on Netflix, YouTube, Vimeo, and Hulu: NO PROBLEMS. I get to XfreakenFinity TV Online and BAM!!! Start-Stop Start-Stop Start-Stop. Can't wait for FiOS to get here. I'd like if I could pay in a similar fashion: Start-Stop / Start-Stop I dont' think they would like that.
Same thing happening here. 2015 and comcast website is choppy useless garbage. My guess is theyre doing this on purpose. Shouldnt take years to figure this out.

You're not sensitive enough to notice. I've looked on many different PCs with the same results. No browser-based video player is as smooth as live cable TV. Comcast's online player is much worse than the others however.
