Auto extend for live sporting events

I have been watching the World Series where the games almost always go past the scheduled ending time, and these games therefor get auto extended.  Problem is, when I then watch those recordings, the time bar shows the entire length of the recording.  So, if the scheduled length of the recording on the guide is 3 hours, and the game goes extra innings and runs to 5 hours, as soon as you start watching the recording you see that it went 5 hours, which tells you right away that it went extra innings, and as you get closer to the end, you can pretty much tell when something big is going to happen.

I seem to recall that not too recently, the time bar was showing 3 hours, and then when you got to 3 hours, the additional time just kept being added on to the time bar, but it never showed the whole length.  At least that is how I remembered it up north.  I am now in Florida where I have another comcast account and here it is showing the entire length.  Would you please correct this.
