FYI, I have two XG1 DVR's and one XG1v4 DVR and two XG2's.  I can access ANY recording on ANY X1 box.  Comcast calls it Anyroom DVR.

Yes it would still work for you like it does now, you are just adding a dvr in the mix

But they’re charging you $20/mo for each additional xg1 dvr right? As opposed to the $9.95/mo for an xid?

That is the case with my XG2.  When I get the time, I am going to trade in one X1 DVR for an XG2 to save the $10/mo.

I had a tech come out yesterday to install the XG1v4 box, but he said it would not work as I am not using the comcast rentable model.   He said the boxes only work with the comcast modem and not customer modems.   Is he correct?   You have to use the comcast modem?

Css33, unfortunately your tech was mistaken, modem model doesn’t matter. Only necessary to have a Comcast gateway with an Xi5

Since you can ony currently get Netflix in 4k on the xg1v4 I would think you'd only have one box if the other tv's are capable of streaming 4k.

Xfinity 4k box

Hey guys,

 

I was wondering if it would be possible for me to upgrade to the XG1v4 TV box?  I've been calling the 1 800 number and I've been told to call many different people, but they all keep telling me that they don't have the XG1v4 TV box.  Any help would be wonderful!

installed my XG1v4 last night

 

I have a 2015 Vizio M43-C1

 

4 Hdmi outputs are 4k @ 30Hz

 

1 is 4k @ 60Hz

 

I should use the 60Hz hdmi & set resolution on the box to 2160p60 right?

 

Box is way faster than my xg1-A. But about the same speed as an xiD.

 

So it solved my slow main dvr problem.

Guide looks crisper, picture looks a little better.

4K netflix looks just as good as the native netflix app.

yes since you can't set the box to 'native'. on the YouTube app are you offered the 4k versions? (showing that YT detects 4k capability)?

To clarify Rusty's question; When you open the You Tube app there is a Category title line just below Search field.

 

The field begins with Recommended and about 5 or so categories to the right is: 4K. That field will not show up for televisions that are not identified as 4K televisions.

 

The problem is that if you don't a fast enough broadband on your home network, or too many people using it, your 4K television may not be identified as 4k. It might be a cable-box issue if everything else checks out okay.

I'm not seeing the 4K option. The cable box recognises the tv as 4k and gives me the 2160p/60 option and I just ran a speed test on my laptop and got 239 mbps down.

In the Netflix app, the top row shows all the Ultra HD 4K options, but under the title details above, it still says HD.

On my Vizio Netflix app, it says Ultra HD 4K under the title description.

Vizio input resolution info shows 2160 on both xfinity & vizio netflix

so far I don' think Comcast has said on the YouTube mega-thread that it supports 4K, Maybe 4k for Youtube is a future upgrade.

Power cycling worked. Now showing as Ultra HD 4K under the title description in Xfinity Netflix app.

Anybody elses xg1v4 spark like crazy when plugging it in?

That should not be happening. Are you talking about sparking at the outlet when plugging the cord in? If the box is sparking, unplug it and have it replaced. Do not use it!

 

It might be a loose wire in the outlet. Turn off the circuit-breaker for the outlet and check the wires connected to the outlet, or call a electrician.

perfectly normal at the plug, the power brick is an inductive load and the 'spark' can occur either plugging or unplugging.

I am using a digital optical cable to route sound back to my Receiver.  The old X1 boxes had digital out.  These new ones don't.  So I'm running HDMI to the Samsung 4K TV "One Connect" box.  I'm running digital out from the Samsung One Connect back to the Surround Sound Receiver.  Maybe it's just my set up. I'll try some tweaks with cables and Samsung settings.  Was just curious if it was just me.  


I have a Samsung TV as well I am running the 4k from the comcast box to HMDI 2 on a high speed cable

 

My Apple TV via high speed cable to HDMI 1

 

The Smart TV Plays via HDMI 1

 

Getting the sound back from the TV Via HDMI 3 (ARC) to my Bose Cinemate on my old HDMI cable

 

Using a Echo Dot and Harmony Hub to swith the inputs on TV via my turn on request

 

Only Issue is the poor IR reception of the new cable box working on getting my Harmony hub to a happy place for all

you mentioned in a previous post that Comcast modem/router not required to support 4K STB. I have the STB on order to use with my Surfband modem + Apple router. Comcast support (india) confirmed  what you stated: that their modem/router is not required but neither is Xi5... can you clarify?

The Xi5 is a secondary box and the XG1V4 is a dvr. Sorry, but your question isn’t very clear

Understood: was unaware what the Xi5 was. Do you recommend any speed minimums to have Xi5? Currently on the 100 mbs down plan and generally get 50-75 down.

The Xi5 is a wireless device that needs wireless MoCA.  This can be provided by a special Comcast modem / router (which would probably need professional installation or if you use your own equipment you would need a MoCA to ethernet bridge (with knowledge of how to wire it up).

I have been stopping in my store for over a month to try and get a new box that supports 4K.  I purchased 2 new 4K TV's, upped my internet from the 150 to 300, upgraded my NetFlix to the 4K package, but they keep telling me that they are out of stock.  One time they had it bt wouldn't hold it since it was about a 40 minute round trip to home and back and it was gone when I got back.  Smiley Sad  I keep trying and I stop in almost every day after work, but no luck.  Guess they are hard to get, but the Comcast employees tell me they have them and that they are great.  Can someone who has it verify if the Netflix 4K looks good?  I'm excited and can't wait to get a new box.  Hope I get to get a couple soon (one to replace my DVR and the other for my extra HD reciever)!  Let me know what you guys think of the picture and if it's worth the wait!!  Smiley Happy

If your 4k tv's are smart tvs I'd use the native app. The netflix app  on the xg1v4 looks good but so does the tv app most of the time.

And the TV Netflix app will do HDR.
I just received and installed my XG1V4 today. Ordered over the phone last Friday. I got the same no stock stories at a couple stores as well. The 1st store said no stock in any store in North America. Maybe some in Mexico or India. I figured they were just brushing me off, but who knows. Shipping was painless though.

@cldlhd Thank you for your response.  Yes, they are.  They are Samsung 8000 series TV's and do have the app.  The TV apps never seem to search or as "snappy" as other dedicated boxes that provide the apps.

 

@Cydeweyz Thanks for your report.  Two nights ago the guy at the store changed out my DVR box for some odd reason ("for my troubles" since I made the trip with all of my stuff in hand), however the box he gave me when I got home and unwrapped it from the cardboard and shrink wrap) was all scratched up, had a green button instead of the blue one my old one had, something is loud and has a squeal to it (like a bad cap), and the audio cuts out in the middle of shows and comes back on spurradically.  I wish I would have just kept my old box now.  I had to reboot the old box once a week because it would freeze and act wierd (but it wasn't too inconvienient) this one seems old and sluggish (almost like it can support the X1 platform efficiently).  Smiley Sad

 

I hope someone is able to help on the forums and I can just change out the equipment with the 4K stuff, but if not I'll just run back to the store and try and get a quieter DVR with one that doesn't lose sound for the time being.  Thanks again for your replies, much appreciated!

My OLD box that they kept looked like the old box you have on the bottom with the blue light (mine may have had a USB slot under the blue botton as well I think), the one that they gave me does not.  The box they gave me looks similar, but has a green light (instead of blue) and if I remeber right a couple of push puttons on the front under the clock.  Sorry, trying to do this from memory from work.  Smiley Happy

 

The remote I have is the old one (one on top).

@Cydeweyz Thanks for your report.  Two nights ago the guy at the store changed out my DVR box for some odd reason ("for my troubles" since I made the trip with all of my stuff in hand), however the box he gave me when I got home and unwrapped it from the cardboard and shrink wrap) was all scratched up, had a green button instead of the blue one my old one had, something is loud and has a squeal to it (like a bad cap), and the audio cuts out in the middle of shows and comes back on spurradically.  I wish I would have just kept my old box now.  I had to reboot the old box once a week because it would freeze and act wierd (but it wasn't too inconvienient) this one seems old and sluggish (almost like it can support the X1 platform efficiently).  Smiley Sad

 

I hope someone is able to help on the forums and I can just change out the equipment with the 4K stuff, but if not I'll just run back to the store and try and get a quieter DVR with one that doesn't lose sound for the time being.  Thanks again for your replies, much appreciated!


that is the oldest model of x1 DVR and has component cable outputs. it has only 5 not 6 tuners available and is known for sound dropouts. the squeal is the failed hard drive. take it back and get at least a xg1 verson 3. if you have 4k TV ask for an xg1 version 4

30 second skip

When I received my XG1v4 a few weeks ago I promptly set the skip from 5min to 30sec via the remote code: EXIT-EXIT-EXIT-0-0-3-0

This code worked great...until yesterday when I noticed my skip was back to 5min, must have been some overnight upgrade that reset it. Now when I try to put back the 30sec skip with the same code it no longer appears to work.

Anybody get the same behavior and/or have been able to set 30sec skip recently?

I’m currently on “STB Version” AX014AN_2.13p19s1_PROD_sey (from About page)

many customers have reported this issue, fixed by either a reboot of the box (the setting fixes itself) or resetting the option like you did. Comcast says in replies that the firmware upgrade does not cause this, but it only happens after a firmware upgrade and affects customers apparently at random.Reboot your set top box (unplug from power for 30 seconds or so) and the issue should be fixed.

Thanks for the reply. Took the box to the Xfinity store today and they gave me a V3 box from what I’m told. I do have a few 4K TV’s but they don’t have the V4 boxes.

The guy told me to call the Xfinity number or get on the forums and someone may be able to get me a 4K. Anyone here able to help? Haha.

I’m sure the sound cut out and box squeal from the old box will go away with this replacement at least. Smiley Happy

Well, that excitement as short lived. Hooked up the box that they gave me when I got home, and after 20 minutes of looping and not completely booting up (and trying to power cycle it a few times), this box is apparently not good (should have kept the squealing one).

Decided to try and call customer service for a replacement box and hopefully a V4... and was told to go to the local store and pick up a V4 box to work with my 4K TV’s. I told them they were out according to the guy at the store, and they said they couldn’t help and I should just go back and get a regular replacement box again... so disappointed today. Smiley Sad

I guess I’ll go back and get another box to replace this one for the third time. Right now I wish I would have gotten a V4 box first instead of buying the TV’s, upgrading my internet, and upgrading my Netflix first. Comcast guy made it seem like the local store had a boatload of them. My fault for spending that much money and not making sure they had the V4 box first.

Glad other people on the forum are getting help with their boxes. If anyone here can help me order a V4 box please let me know. Don’t want to message the mods without permission because it’s a violation of the forums I guess.

No problem. Maybe it's due to internet speed? I have good wifi but went through the trouble of running a cat6 cable down my wall so my new LG OLED 4k is hard wired.

Dude you are getting run around and over! I’d say they had a note in the system under your name to mess with you, but I’m sure it’s just a general message for all customers and I got lucky with my V4 order Smiley Happy I’ve had my own horror show happening trying to get my account straightened out these past few days. I hope we both have easier weeks next week, but won’t know for sure until the next bill shows up

Jolt, you have one of two options. One, in your Samsung TV you may have an audio sync option, try adjusting that. Also, if your Sony receiver supports ARC (Audio Return Channel, Sony likes to call it Bravia link/sync) plug an HDMI into the designated ARC HDMI port on your one connect box and to the monitor out on your Sony receiver. You will also get better audio as HDMI audio will support Dolby Digital +. Give that a shot and let us know how it goes.

This box or another?

The box I currently have says it  XC1-P on the front of it. 

I have a 75" Sony 4k tv. a Denon avr-s910w Which has HDMI 2.0a and is HDCP 2.2 compliant 

 

I know the box I have is an older box but for what I have read through multiple areas that the XG1v4 has issues with a harmony.(hopefully, I am wrong on this)  I have a Harmony Ultimate and it is a much-needed piece of my home entertainment. The reason I have been looking at all these threads is with the current update to have Pandora and Netflix my box freezes up for 3 to 4 mins at a time when trying to access either.  Do I have other better options than the current box that I have?

the XG1-p (pace) is the oldest and slowest of the DVRs and is known for audio drop off and for only having 5 not 6 tuners available. It is the only DVR that had component video ouput jacks. If you are not using component cabling and use HDMI swap out the box for an Arris Xg1v2 or v3. if you have Netflix 4k subscription and a 4k TV you could upgrade (same price) to an Xg1v4.
