ok..a few issues have been going on lately with my DVR...

1) i keep having intermittent DVR service errors come up. it happens mostly when i try to delete a show...then it happened when trying to record a show.

2) also i tried to cancel a recording and it said it cancelled it but it has yet to come off the queue...i wanted to try to record that same show just on a different channel and it said it was all set, but the listing still said the original channel!!

3) and i also noticed some shows just randomly dissappeared off my list of recordings..and they are also not on the On Demand either...what?

what is going on with this thing?

just an idea. on the missing recordings did you look in your >saved>recently deleted 'folder'?

i did look there as well and nothing...

when the red-letter comcast ppl see your post they will want to look into your account at the 'recording' logs for specific errors. to do that they need the date show channel and time and if your 'username' here is not same as you use for your account they will ask for a PM with account information. There is a (new?) online error log around the dvr manager menu but so far has not had any info available on it at all for my account.

Are playlists synchd across devices? For example if I have a playlist on my primary X1 dvr will I be able to view that playlist and the associated shows on my any room dvr? I assume so cause I can watch my recordings from my dvr on the non dvr so why wouldn't playlists synch too?

Do you think changing one of my1A boxes for a V3 would be of any help?

Lee,

To be honest, I would not ask for an XG1v3 just yet....  I am having issues that are being addressed on Thursday afternoon at my home with a Tech and an Engineer onsite communicating directly with Senior Support Staff...  I believe the XG1v3 isn't ready for general release just yet ( as proven by the attention I am receiving from Comcast )....

That being said, it is a great box after I manually restart it, but there seems to be some sort of internal issue ( processor/memory/motherboard) that diplays its shortcomings the longer it is powered on....  think of it as a buffer that fills up and doesn't release its stored content regulary through a timed event....   this is causing severe lags in channel changes, severe lags attempting to access recordings not only on itslef but the other XG1-A in the house, severe lag even accessing the Diagnostics screen, MOCA table will sometimes show a black band ( no data ) and a restart is required to populate the menu...

I will provide better/updated feedback after the appointment on Thursday..... Unitl then, just sit tight until I see/talk with the professionals then.

All signals are well within spec. Upstream around 46, downstream SNR around 39

Lag between an STB ands a DVR can also be MOCA related.... what are your MOCA rates?  ( I should have asked that before!!!! )

There is no DVR.. the whole UI lags siginificantly after being on for a few days (starts to become like watching a slideshow)

I've been told there is a significant update (originally scheduled for Jan 20th) that is going to be released on Feb 5th.

They've said it will address and hopefully correct many of the problems that customers are experiencing when they have multiple X1 DVRs.

In the last week, I have had specialists completely exhaust any possibility there is a problem here with my amplification or internal/external wiring.

On Tuesday, 1/13/15, we had our service upgrade to the X1 system (1) DVR and (3) Set Top Boxes (STBs) that can view the DVR contents.  Please forgive my ignorance with exactly what the names of these device are.  Playback on nearly every recorded program experieinces moderate "chopiness" from every set top box on the X1 system.  The chopiness is best described as a combination of pixelated images, momentarily paused images and fast forwarded playback that can progress through 10 seconds of the program up to several minutes.

I experimented using one recording.  The chopiness occurs at the exact same point in the playback while being viewed from each of the (3) STBs (not viewing playback at the same time).  So this lead me to beleive the source of the problem is the original recording.

I watched the program using the DVR and there is a short "blip" in the playback at the same point where the choppy playback occurs on the STBs.  The blip is best desccribed as a very brief pixelated/paused playback.  The duration of the blip is very short, but seems to be the trigger for the choppy playback on the STBs.

For what it's worth, I went into the settings of the STBs to check the signal strength and it was "Good".

At this point, we're not having this issue with On Demand playback or Live TV.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

the menu, green/red icon for signal strength are not for "QAM" tuner and in home (like a companion box watching an m-meg2 stream of a video from the DVR) media strength/problems, but for that box to comcast server comunication (aka 'intranet/internet (apps)"

DVR requires transfer using the 'cable internet' called MoCA similar to ethernet, it is how the different X1 equipment talk/transfer the media files. to test the basic transfer speed, using the remote hit and long-press the exit key about 5 seconds, release, and quickly press "down" "down" "2" ... on the screen that pops up press "down" until you highlight "MoCA". when the right side fills in (should be 'enabled' and "linked up") press "right" and jot down the numbers you see. Since you have 4 devices should have 4 lines. they will look like

 .       240    240   240

240     .       240   240

240   240      .      240

240   240    240     .

they measure the "PHY" speed in megabytes between each box as seen from the 4 devices. Each line is the report from one of the boxes, the "." (period) is the box itself meaning no speed check is done to itself. Would you notate your numbers as seen from each box? If a comcase "red name on left" checks this they can pull logs of the speed test.

If there is an issue playing back recorded content from a secondary stb, it would not act in this way. I am sure this is an issue were the tuner on the DVR itself was having issues locking on to the signal at the time the event was recorded. Pixelation will not occur at any time when the file is in good order. The files that are streamed to the secondary stb are not in qam form, they are at that point ip based over the in home moca network.

My numbers are as follows:

  .    247 266 265

262   .    269 253

273 260   .    266

262 251 267   .

Not sure what that will tell us, but thank you for the follow up.

Regarding the signal strength comment.  Not sure what the green/red icon is, that you mentioned.  I checked the signal strength via the menu - Settings/Comcast Labs/Cable Signal Strength.

I spoke with Tech Support this afternoon.  He "refreshed" my DVR.  We recorded a portion of a movie and played it back from one of the secondary STBs.  There was no choppy playback during that test.  I am hopefull that this fixed the issue, but remain skeptical until I watch a few recorded shows (post - refresh).

This afternoon I tried watching an On Demand program and was greeted with a blank screen.  I "restarted" the STB and was able to watch the program.

This evening, I had to repeat this on the 2nd STB to watch an On Demand program.

Will check the 3rd STB and DVR tomorrow to see if there are similar On Demand playback issues.

I really want this to work, but Comcast isn't winning anyone over in my house right now.  Three days ago, everything was working great....install X1 and my best option is watching live TV.  At this point, we're paying more for less.

Thanks again,

Scott

good numbers - all - better than mine. I get about 500 uncorrectable errors every update too, Don't know the effect. Techs here say my average 235 MoCA is 'gold' (good). Glad you have good numbers.

It is possible that when they installed the new x1 equipment they changed the configeration of the splitter s . As for xod and live channels that are accessed on you new equipment. It done pretty much in the same manor that older comcast equipment would have done. Did you add additional outlets or move equipment location during the Install?

During the X1 installation, some equipment was changed and relocated.  Below is a "wiring diagram" of my home as it is connected today.  Most of it is identical to the connection prior to X1.

Prior to X1, the original DVR was located where the $$ are shown (off of the 2nd 2-way splitter)

The filter was installed when the X1 system was installed.

The 6-way splitter replaced an 8-way that I had previously installed.

The new X1 DVR is installed in a location that was previously unused.

The two other "Secondary STBs" replaced two "Standard STBs"

Hope the "drawing" above is clear enough.

You need an X1 capable RF amp. You have far too many splits to not have an amp.

Adding to Rick, is the first 2 way and the 6 way relatively close to each other? The amp would go at the very first 2 way

The first two way splitter is outside, the second two way is inside (adjacent to the secondary ST, used to obtain a feed for the internet service.

The six way is in the basement. Originally was a 4-way, until we extended cable TV to all bedrooms and an exercise room.

All splitters were placed by Comcast technicians over the past few years. The (2) two-way splitters were placed when we first subscribed to cable Internet service.

On Tuesday, when the X1 system was installed, the technician checked the signal strength at each Secondary STB and the DVR.  He said the signal was strong enough for this system.

I'd like to believe he was correct?

Any suggestions on the RF Amplifier?  Any issue if it is placed before the 6-way splitter.  Putting it outside, before the 1st 2-way would not be an easy solution (no electric nearby).

Thank you,

Scott

Scott,

Call in to Comcast and get a tech out to your house.... Sometimes "do it yourself types" need to know when they might be in over there head. You may fix this yourself but I suspect it will happen much faster with a service call.

FYI, the techs that do your original install will always tell you that your signal levels are fine. But that is not always the case. It happened to me.

I too am in South Florida, I was here for the same hurricanes since I have been in Port St Lucie for 13 yrs, and as you indicated Directv worked fine through those storms. I have two friends that work for the contractual installer, they also admit that the X1 was released too soon, many bugs are still in the system. Well, we followed the "rules" and our "assets" were dropped. Even with heavy storms in the last two months, Dish has worked great, all of our recordings and scheduled recordings have been fine. We kept Comcast voice and Internet - Xfinity acknowledged the issue and gave us a great deal to keep the latter. No early termination fees either. I'll steer clear from Comcast/Xfinity for now for television needs.

Hwy 505, it is like anything else it is impossible to keep all customers happy at all times. There ate . Days were I hate x1 and days I can't live without it. It is just like choosing between sprint and Verizon, what works for one customer may not make the other customer happy..

I know for some this wouldn't be that big of a deal but we currently have the PA px001anm x1 dvr for the last 2 weeks or so the little record light on the front of it no longer works it has been reset multiple times by going into the setings and restarting that way and by unplugging waiting 30 sec. and plugging it back in plus now when the message pops up that says its time to reset your box i hit ok to reset it it freezes up 99% of the time and i have to unplug it to reset it also not to big of a deal but i feel like when im having to pay nearly 200 a month i feel like everything should work correctly so if i could get some help to fix this it would be nice plus after the offer i got from frontier today that would cut my bill in half double the number of channels i have granted the internet speed would be lower but still tempting but anyway if anyone has any ideas to fix this it would be greatly appreciated also comcast any ideas when we are going to get a different channel to replace one of the CBS's we have we have no need for 2 cbs channels

Hello

Yesterday I recorded the UFC event (1/24/15), the red light was on when I returned home and this morning I was excited about watching it. I go into recordings on my box and well its not there Smiley Sad

picture of the TV:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/87tp7aw6hprnfg2/set%20top%20box%20recordings%20listing.jpg?dl=0

luckily I can see the recordings if I login using the web; here is a screenshot of that:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/c60m0hl53difkhj/web%20x1.JPG?dl=0

interesting that they are not in sync.

Thanks

Jon

EDIT: the playback is very blocky and laggy, tried, chrome, firefox and IE - I have blast 105; I tested a Netflix movie which played just fine. I changed the video to low quality during the x1 recording playback with no difference in lag.

system info: https://www.dropbox.com/s/91r9lpepdqqfr7q/system.JPG?dl=0

EDIT 2: I stopped UFC as its completely unwatchable. Then started Capt. America movi,e recorded not on demmand, it plays fine no choppiness.

EDIT3: so I restarted my X1 box and the UFC recordings are there now, they playback just fine on the X1 box.

x1 support live assistance is at 877-896-8678

the problems you describe (missing recordings that seem to be suddenly gone) have been fixed many times on this forum by the red-letter comcast employees. Each time they ask for as much information as possible on 2 or 3 recordings. They need the date/time/channel/program name and will ask you for a private message (do not send to me I am not a comcast employee) with account info IF you are not using your comcast account username on this forum.  cheers!

I used to have the standard Comcast/Xfinity DVR box. (The big gray Motorola one) running HDMI out to an automatic 3 port HDMI switch which would select the active HDMI signal to push to my TV. I have this setup because my TV is mounted on the wall, with the HDMI cable running through the wall for aesthetic purposes. This setup worked flawlessly until I upgraded to the X1 platform. Now, with the X1 DVR, if at any time, I turn the TV off and back on, I get no picture or sound, and either need to turn the X1 box off and on via the button on the front, or disconnect the HDMI cable form the rear of it, and plug it back in in order to restore picture. I don't think it's a problem with my equipment, because as I said, this identical setup worked flawlessly until I upgraded to X1. I don't think it's the specific X1 DVR box I have, since the problem is repeatable and predictable. I think that the box may have a design flaw or may just need a firmware update to fix this issue. I have already had one service appointment for it, and will have a second next week, more than likely to tell me what I already believe to be true. We'll see.

There's definitely an HDMI issue with the platform.  I almost never have sound when I turn on a TV, and sometimes no video.  In most cases changing the channel will restore the sound.

2 new DVR problems.

So far this morning I've had one program record, but not show up in the Saved (or the Deleted) folder, another one recording but not showing up in the Saved folder, to watch it while recording I have to start it from the Scheduled folder.

I also had a program recorded last night that was in my folder this morning, then minutes later disappeared. It's not in the Deleted folder (the recording has shown back up in the X1 Saved folder, but is still missing in the Companion box Saved folder).

X1:

XRE Server Version: 1.48.08 1/12/15 12:44

Receiver: 1.3.4

Companion box:

XRE Server Version: 1.48.09 1/21/15 11:44

Receiver: 1.3.4

Are there "fixes" being pushed during the nightly reboots that don't show up in the version numbers?

Unplug and reboot all of your X1 boxes. Plug the DVR back in first, wait for it to reboot, then plug in your Companions. That will usually fix this issue.

Not fixed, just circumvented for now. We need to know cause and how to fix permanently. Yes, I am having shows pop up hours after being recorded.

One set of problems "resolved", another one pops up.

I watch a recording, delete it, the screen dims and instead of going back to the Saved folder screen, it just stays dim. I have to press Exit, which restores the normal live screen.

How does all this stuff keep happening without any version changes?

Sure it does. Your guide is on the cloud. Many variables...

Also, things with X1 can change without version changes. Over my 1.5 years with X1, I have found that version change information is less than 100% reliable and cannot always be trusted, especially XRE (guide) versions.

hi, another customer here. not much to go on so far, the DVR will remove recorded 'assets' when space is needed. The recently deleted are supposed to 'go' first then oldest assets that are set to 'delete when space is needed'.

There is a 'network settings/coding' issue that causes the symptom you are describing. When a red-letter comast person sees your issue they can check the settings and if that is the problem, the 'fixes' will make your recordings 'appear' (as if they are currently hidden from you). In past threads even the assets that were scheduled during the period appeared when the coding on the account was adjusted. good luck

they usually (eventually) respond to this issue via the thread but might be possible for the x1 support center 877-896-8678 to fix it in the same way.

This is my second post on this thread. As I wrote previously, Comcast/Xfinity has known about this issue since 2013, and have done NOTHING about it. Every Comcast person who has replied to this issue is blowing smoke up our backsides. As it was explained to me from multiple Comcast employees is that the DVR's are not able to properly calculate the amount of space being used on the DVR. I only record in HD, yet they tried to blame it on recording both SD and HD being the reason it cann't calculate the percentage used. The only way to somewhat protect your recordings is to use the Xfinity TV Remote app and go into DVR Manager/Priority Manager. then select the show and click modify. Scroll down and change the "Save Until" to "I Delete".

Also, DO NOT BELIEVE THEM if they tell you that your recordings are being backed up on the CLOUD. It's complete BS!!!!!! If you don't believe me, switch out your DVR, and you will lose all your programming.

I've had multiple Comcast supervisors and supposedly a Comcast  "engineer" to my house and they were the ones that gave me the majority of my information.

Too bad Comcast reps don't read their own FAQ's.

I'm pretty sure that if Comcast reps were smart enough to read, they would find a job somewhere else.  I've had my X1 for about a year now, so I've had 30 or 40 opportunities to contact Comcast about the p*ss-poor quality of their "flagship" product.  The ignorance I get from their reps never ceases to amaze me.

I think my favorite is all the different explanations I get about why the remote control won't actually turn the X1 box off. The variety of bullsh*t answers I get is truly entertaining.

On topic: after behaving for several months, my X1 is now disappearing programs immediately after recording them (meaning deleting newer programs first), while showing 48% full with an empty 'recently deleted' folder.  Any one else experiencing this 'feature'?  Any ideas?

After reading the explanations in detail, I now understand (*I think*) why the listings on my DVR do not exactly match my DVR listings on xtv.comcast.net  I will put a call into X1 tech support tonight for resolution and credit.  Will post with results

I had the X1 system installed on 1/23/15. The system consists of one X1 DVR and 4 HD boxes and one digital upgrade box.

The initial X1 failed with no HDMI output. The composite output was OK. When the tech came out to replace the box he noted that the installed box was 2 or 3 generations old and should never been on the installer's truck. He gave me a XG1-P box and said it was the latest version.

The new DVR has been buggy in so far as randomly rebooting and losing recordings or not recording scheduled recordings. It also randomly does not show scheduled recordings but later they pop up again.

Last night I scheduled 4 recordings. Three at the same time and one an hour later. I was watching a previously recorded show when the unit ws recording the first three. I check to see if they were actually recording and they were shown as recording. After finishing the previously recorded show I went to the recodings page to find all three were gone. I checked the guide to fing the fourth program with no record bullet.

I rebooted the the DVR and the first three programs came back, but when I went to click on them, there was no "watch" option. All the programs are on the cloud, and I can watch them that way, however, after a reset by tech support, they do not exist on the DVR.

I have a scheduled appointment to replace the DVR, but I and not confident that this is the fix. It acts as if this is a system bug, not a box issue.

I have a few days left on my 30-day cancellation, and it may be the way.
