Using an old remote with an X1 box.

New Poster

Using an old remote with an X1 box.

I couldn't find how to do this anywhere on this forum so I figured I'd post it anyways. If you'd like to use an old remote (Grey with red OK button) to control your new X1 cable box (Mine is make Arris model mx011anm) follow these steps:

1) Hold the SETUP button until the indicator light blinks two times.
2) Enter 9 - 8 - 2. The indicator light will blink four times.

This unlocks your remote.

3) Hold the SETUP button until the indicator light blinks two times.
4) Enter the code 01982

This should make your old grey remote (That can control your TV, AV Receiver, and Cable Box) work with your new X1 receiver. The reason this is important to me is because the provided XR2 version U2 remote can only control your box and your TV. You do lose a little functionality with the old remote when interfacing with your X1 box compared to the provided remote but I feel the trade off is worth it for me.

I discovered all of this via Comcast's online chat feature with a tech support representative.

Re: Using an old remote with an X1 box.

Thanks for this information.  Now I have to go to my "local" center and get a silver remote.  I threw away all the ones I had with the RNG200's because I thought they wouldn't work with X1.

Robert,

I am suprised you did not know that. Not to take anything from MznBrew's efforts but I have been posting in this forum for the better portion of the past year that the old silver remote works with X1. I thought it was fairly common knowledge...

Good point LOL.

I probably have at least 10 silver remotes laying around. Let me know if you want me to ship a couple your way...

Your shipping costs would probably be more than the cost of the gas for me to do a round-trip to my service center; 16 miles x $3/gal. = $3.00. <g>

Re: Using an old remote with an X1 box.

Once again Robert, good point.

I was just doing some cleaning and I found two more silver remotes. I must have 14-15 of them. Maybe if I ever decided I feel like doing Comcast a favor I will return most of them to a store...

Rick I think Robert is sitting in his chair laughing every time he posts this stuff. It took Me a while to figure that he says this stuff as sarcasm. below is an example of his latest masterpiece...

The newer XR2 remotes are able to control audio systems, or so I've heard...
