I also have one of each for my two X1 DVR's.  I can't tell any diffierence.  They are each paired to their DVR.

Tonight, the x2 remote started acting strangely.
The volume up button works... The volume down button, however, triggers the x1 box to go to "live".
The guide button turns off the tv...
The last button puts the X1 into replay (rewind 30 seconds and then play)

I have rebooted the X1
I have switched the batteries out on the remote...

I can get to the guide from the xfinity button... But I can not turn the volume down at all, except by stepping to the tv and using th manual buttons.

hi, another customer here. you didn't happen to say if the device you are having the issue with (the set top box) is the/a DVR or a companion box. If it is a DVR hit the "down" arrow and notice the LED on the remote blink pattern. If it flashed 'red' LED only take the remote to any other x1 Equipment and try the remote on that set top box. If it works there then it is the box you were attempting to control. If it does the same 'thing' on the other x1 set top box then it is the remote that is bad. 

 

If the "down arrow" makes the remote flash green OR red/green or green/red hold down the remote setup button and when remote changes from red to green key in "987" (will remove rf pairing if any). good luck.

Sorry but I don't think i jnderstand what you mean... pressing ANY button on the remote makes the all power light red, a single flash... but that is ghe same as it always has done. The down arrow brings up the play, pause, etc script across the nottom of the screen.

cool. that means that the remote is set to use "IR" (infrared). there is a bump at the top end of the remote that sends light our eyes can't see to the x1 equipment (and TV). The remote can send commands to the X1 equipment using something like 'wifi' (similar to cell phones). The Red light for channel up/down verifies the remote is set to use IR. Ok did you take the remote to another X1 set top box and see if it works on it normally?

Little experience with Harmony remote much more with urc.  My comment in past post did not have any thing bad to say about the Harmony remote as to my lack of experience with the same.  However my original contact with the forum was exploring X1 for urc remotes and others and it seemed like the all of the feed back was related to the the Harmony remotes.  Again my issue is with comcast not looking at the whole industry when introducing new products and their compatibility with the many of the standards whch their customers have bought into.

As I just posted in another thread when it comes to X1 Comcast is walking to the beat of their own drum. They are doing things their way and do not appear to be listening to outside input. The remote language issue you mentioned and extremely suspect HDMI implementation would be two perfect examples.

I have said countless times that Comcast should have consulted the Custom AV Industry when they designed X1 but it sure appears they did not. The good news is that Comcast Neal appears to have an extensive AV background and I think he is getting X1 headed in the right direction.

I have not seen them myself and I doubt they will ever see the light of day but apparently Comcast has been showing rack mountable X1 boxes with RS232 ports at trade shows...

I control my theater system with a Elan Via Tools equipment and programming. I have the Elan IR Leaner and have copied remote codes for quite a few devices with no issue. I copied the Xfinity codes from a X4 and a X2 remote. All codes showed a good capture, however, they will not control the X1 with the exception of the Xfinity Menu button. The Elan system can interpret codes from a Pronto .ccf file or a Niles Audio file. However, I cannot find any files for this model or any Comcast box.
Is there anything special about these codes that cannot be interpreted by another learning unit?

we just gpt our X1, with the XR5 remote.  configured the remote to work with our Zvox sound system.  Volume control works, but the vol up and vol down does 2 levels, not 1.

 

is there some way to configure this/fix it??

Unless there is more than one code for Zvox then no, there is probably no way to fix it.

It is typical for remotes to repeat a command more than once even if you just tap the button the remote. This is called "repeats" and it is very typical for a remote to repeat a command at least once if not two or three times. Your XR5 is repeating the Zvox volume command more times than Zvox's own remote is. There is no way to adjust the amount of repeats an XR5 sends unless they have a different code for Zvox.

Adjusting repeats is a rather simple process in a more sophisticated universal remote such as a Harmony or a URC. A Harmony 650 can be bought for roughly $50 and it offers the ability to adjust repeats.

I have programmed the remote to my TV and that works fine. The remote will turn the TV on and off but does not turn off any of the X1 boxes. They have to be manually turned off. This is the case with all of my cable boxes and TV's. I can live with it but it is irritating.

This is done by design, the X1 boxes use much less power than the old ones.

It's normal. X1 boxes are currently designed to remain on however changes to that may be coming soon.

There is a Power Save option in Settings that will turn off the light on the front of the X1 boxes.

I really wish there was direct access to MyDVR recordings instead of scrolling through the menus.

What I find interesting is that on the Xfinity X1 app for the iPhone, you can go directly to your recordings.

Wonder if there's a way to capture that IR code and import it to my Harmony Ultimates?

Hi Rick - I just installed three X1 boxes (main one and two smaller ones). I use two Harmony 900's and a newer Logitech 915-000237. On all three remote setups they work flawlessly, except they won't turn off the X1 boxes. Any suggestions?

my greenie is on 149.03 and has a menu for putting box in powersaver mode 'now'. will that allow that macro (if that is the word) to turn 'on' power saver mode with the programmable remotes?

Robert is correct. X1 boxes are meant to stay on 24-7 and I have no problem with leaving them on. For all of the Greenies out there, the type of power supply that X1 boxes come with and the way that today's set top boxes are built, they draw roughly the same amount of power regardless if the box is on or off.

It should be noted that ComcastNeal mentioned in another thread that Comcast is in the process of bring power control to the X1 boxes and the first step in that process is the power management settings in XRE 1.49.03.

the xr2 works great for me (i'm a brand new comcast customer) however it only controls the tv and cable box... thats ridiculous, back to three remotes???

 

Can I use one of the older comast silver remotes to control the xgp-1 box, along with my stereo (which is needed for sound) and the tv?  forget the dvd, I can live without that but at least let me control the tv, cable, and sound with one remote, it is 2015 here LOL...

 

Yes, I imagine (and read here) that I can go buy another universal remote however it would be nice if one of the comcast remotes could do... My 20 year old advanced cable remote controlled all 4 devices, how can the newest comcast remote not?

 

Any ideas would be wonderfull... cannot take it with multiple remotes

on the back of the remote is there a v2 or v3 ? if so, that remote can control many different receivers too

If your "Comcast Store" isn't too far away, go to them and tell them you need an X1 remote.  See which one they give you.  If it is an XR5, it has an input button for TV.

I don't know.  What do you consider programmable?  I thoght they all were.

I had to get my phone out to use as a 'magnifier' with a light. Ok my "V2" is actually a "U2" also. 

 

remote codes http://xfinity.com/remotes  the XR2 accepts only the 3000.. series codes for audio receivers/devices.

Thank you guys however I don't think the XR5 has the optiions I need.  I need to add 3 devices, these remotes only can handle 2, the TV and the BOX.  I need that can handle the TV, BOX, & A/V Receiver.  It looks like the old comcast sliver remotes had this capability, via Aux... just like the Advanced/Motorola remote that I just gave up last week.  That one controlled 4 devices, the TV< BOX, DVD & The AV Receiver.  I don't care about the DVD however I use sound only through my AV and now have to lug around a second remote just for volume control which is silly lol.

You will need a 3rd party universal remote to control what you need (which I HIGHLY recommend).

There is an issue with the XR5 remote control that Comcast needs to resolve.  1) is the pairing instructions for pairing to the cable box.  The device will only do RF pairing with the X1 DVR box.  It will not pair with the non-DVR box.  I tried this for both of my non-DVR boxes without success and Comcast sent a tech to my house.  He did not understand this at all but when he called his supervisor he was told it is not possible.  The original Comcast phone support sperson should have known this.  The instructions sent with the remote should also reflect this and they do not.  The online video also suggests it will work with all the X1 cable boxes.  That is creates a false impression for someone who is trying to decide if they should upgrade to X1.

 

My biggest gripe is Comcast turned around and charged me $70 for sending out the tech.  1) I was never told there would be a charge.  The customer support person should have told me.  I would not have a tech come out to fix a remote for $70.  2) The tech didn't know anything about the remotes.  So it was a waste of his time and mine anyway.

There is an adapter called XR8 that allows the Companion boxes to be controlled via RF. There is at least one current thread running on the XR8.

Should the Comcast employees you dealt with know this? Yes they should. However, should you have done 30 seconds worth of research in this forum before you posted this? Yes, you probably should have.

You should not be charged for that service call. If the charges actually appear on would call in and complain about it.

Thanks, any suggestions or ideas on which one is best or easiest to program/use?  I had an old logitech that worked great, just want to be sure the one I get can control the cable box.  while on topic, anyone have the code for that box handy as I'm sure I will need it for when i get a remote.

New X1 DVR installed yesterday. No remote to go with it. Was told by the tech to just use the old remote (silver with red "OK/Select" button. Don't know if that's the source of these problems or not but here's what I'm dealing with. 

 

DVR recordings - while watching, try to fast forward. It will scroll thru the 2x, 3x speeds, but when I try to stop and play (after skipping commercials) the playback resumes... from exactly where it was before I fast forwarded. 

 

Second... the STOP button does not stop the [recorded] show from playing. I can pause but I can't "stop" which is very frustrating. 

 

Third... I watch TV... I turn off the TV, leave the DVR on, since I can't turn it off at all with the remote. When turning the TV back on... no signal whatsoever from the DVR. I have to physically turn off the machine from it's power button, then turn it back on for a tv signal to come through. 

 

Not a happy customer right now.

I do see problems here that could be caused by the remote, and the silver remote may stop working completely with an upcoming firmware update. Sounds like that tech wasn't very good. You can pick up X1 remotes for free from your local Comcast office or you can call in to have one sent to you.

My XR2 remote has been working fine for months.  But suddenly today it seems to be sending incorrect signals (or the box is now incorrectly interpretting signals).  It has gone completely haywire.

 

The #6 button does nothing.  The up arrow turns off my TV.  The right arrow inputs #3.  The page up and page down buttons do the same thing.

 

I've changed batteries....re-booted the box.  Nothing.

If you have more than one identical remote try one of those. the red LED means it is using IR not RF so any other remote using IR from an x1 set top box should work. If not, the box has an issue, if so the remote that doesn't work is bad.

The old grey remote does it just fine, the turning off is teicky but possible. I cant find a code that works with the VR5. Even if power off didn't work power on and volume would be better than nothing. Any help with codes ect would be greatly appreciated!

Recently procured 3 XR5 remotes.  I use one with our main TV which has a Bose Lifestyle 135 Entertainment System connected.  I've paired the remote with the TV and the Bose with no problem.  My issue, though a small one, is that when I change the volume level on the Bose it always changes by 2 settings either up or down.  For example if the sound level is on 14 and I tap the "volume +" switch on the XR5 remote the volume will go to 16.  Same thing to lower the volume.

I thought it was maybe the remote so I programmed one of the others and got the same results.

 

Anyone run into this and have a fix for it?

Many of the newer XR2 remotes (except the ones given out with the HD-DTAs)  plus the XR5 and the voice remote can control receivers - you just need to put in an additional code for the receiver.   Unfortunately it is not shown in the instruction book.

I have a new PR150BNM X1 box and an XR5 remote.  I hold the setup button for 3 seconds, the light changes from red to green, then the help videos pop up.  There is no code for pairing the remote to the box.  I ignored the help menus and was able to set up my TV to operate with the XR5 remote but pairing the remote to the box simply doesn't work.

Looks like a new improved version of the XR2 remote, the "XR2v3," should be available soon:

That's an old remote, as far as I know the Xr5 is the remote that's being used for all new installs and replacements

That's an old remote, as far as I know the Xr5 is the remote that's being used for all new installs and replacements

Hmmm .... Well the FCC application files on it are dated January 2014, so it's not that old:

Maybe Comcast had planned to release/produce it, but then the XR5 superceded it?
