DVR Not Recording Full Show

On many occaisions recently (past month or so), I have recorded various shows, movies from FX for example, and start watching the movie only to find out that only an hour or so of the movie actually recorded.  For example, I was watching Maze Running last night which I had recorded on the DVR a week or so ago, and when pressing the pause button, I noticed the DVR showing the movie as about 53 minutes long.  Sure enough it had only recorded the first 53 minutes of the movie.  I was forced to rent it for $3.99 from XFinity to watch the second half.

was that while playing the recording on the home DVR or the cloud DVR using a desk/laptop or smart device?
