Would it be ridiculous of me to expect the app to work? I mean it's kind of like my comcast Internet. Or like a big of chocolates! I never know what I'm going to get!

I've pulled up your account & see you are not using the most up to date version of the Xfinity Home app.  Updating would be the first step to troubleshoot this issue.
