checking voicemail remotely

Okay - read through all the messages in this forum and I'm at a loss. Traveling this week and need to be able to check my voice mail remotely. Calling home number and pressing # doesn't work. Calling home number and pressing * doesn't work. What's the secret?

Are you allowing the voicemail's greeting to play before you push # ? If so, try holding the # key down on your phone for a little longer than a quick press... the # tone may not be getting all the way thru to the system.

Did you ever find a solution? I have same deal.  I can acces with the # with AT&T, but not Sprint phones
