TV search listings showing wrong programming

TV search listings showing wrong programming

Suppose I want to watch the 4pm edition of PBS Newshour.  I search on "PBS Newshour" using the Search for TV and Movies box and get:

  • Thu 05/24 | 4:00 - 5:00 PM | 812 WHYYHD
  • Thu 05/24 | 4:00 - 5:00 PM | 793 WLVTD1
  • Thu 05/24 | 4:00 - 5:00 PM | 39 WLVT
  • Thu 05/24 | 4:00 - 5:00 PM | 12 WHYY

No such channels exist (here in Santa Fe, anyway).  The 4 pm broadcast is actually on Ch 204 NMPBS.  The entire website is like this, totally useless.  Or am I doing something wrong?

Re: Channels on TV Website Don't Exist

Are you logged in?  Even if you update you're zip code, you'll still need to be logged in to see the personalized listings in the search results.

thanks,

Eric

Check your settings and make sure that you have the correct zip code and service area selected.

Re: Channels on TV Website Don't Exist

Joe...something is very peculiar here (settings are correct)

I input "Nightly Business Report" and got exactly the same output as before (the same funny channels), but the time (5pm) was correct.  I then went back and searched Newshour again and got the right answer! (ch 204/NMPBS).  And then did NBR and got the right answer there! Are you supposed to search twice?

What are those funny channels?  Sometimes they appear in lieu of the correct channels and sometimes they don't.  Am I not using Search correctly?  I notice it can mix up TV daily shows, movies, and TV series (eg, 10 years worth of Jerry Springer) into one big mess.  Trying to find the right channel for the winter debates this past winter was impossible (you had to input Republican, not debate).

I don't need all that functionality, I'm just trying what time and channel a show is on.  But only randomly (it appears) do I get the correct channels.

Re: Channels on TV Website Don't Exist

Joe...this morning I repeated the exercise.  "PBS Newshour" got the same thing as yesterday:

  • Fri 05/25 | 4:00 - 5:00 PM | 812 WHYYHD
  • Fri 05/25 | 4:00 - 5:00 PM | 793 WLVTD1
  • Fri 05/25 | 4:00 - 5:00 PM | 39 WLVT
  • Fri 05/25 | 4:00 - 5:00 PM | 12 WHYY               How do I make it yield 204 NMPBS ?  Thnx

Re: Channels on TV Website Don't Exist

OK, the problem appears confined to PBS programming; the stations WHYY and WLTV are in the Philadelphia area (I live in Santa FeNM).  That may explain it, Santa Fe Comcast is the worst in your system, if not the world.

Nope, not just PBS.  Speed Channel listings are for Lynchburg VA.

cwitze, I've been able to duplicate this issue and have reported it.  I'll let you know when I find out more.

Re: Channels on TV Website Don't Exist

Eric....well, I feel like a dummy....it never occurred to me that I had to log in.  I just assumed the listings weren't proprietary, it was like that when TV Guide was running the website.  So I apologize for the false alarm.. but at least I know what to do now.  Thanks, Chris
