TV Go App-Parental Controls, How to Set it up on Android Device

TV Go App-Parental Controls, How to Set it up on Android Device

When using the TV Go app on an Android device:

There is Parental Control under SETTINGS.

When I choose  Parental Controls I am told "Parental Control settings are for videos on your Android device and the XfinityTV.com website only. You can manage parental controls for your TV through your cable box".

Underneath that I choose Manage Parental Controls and get this "Manage Parental. This will launch in another application".

I tap OK.

I am then taken to  My Account/Users and Preferences where I see Manage settings for and choose a secondary account.

Basic Settings is shown, I tap it.

Unfortunately, there is nothing that pertains to Parental Controls for the app.

The only thing I see is the name of the secondary account holder, the user name, Change password and Edit contact name.

So how on earth is one supposed to set up Parental Controls for the app on an Android tablet when the settings do not exist when following the directions given?

Re: TV Go App-Parental Controls, How to Set it up on Android Device

You might not have signed in with your Primary User account.  Signing in with the Primary User account should give you a screen similiar to this, where you will see "Xfinity TV Online Parental Controls" link. If you click that link if will make you first sign a form having to do with "Children's Online Privacy Protection Act" info, for any of your secondary accounts.

You might be better off using the Xfinity TV app though, instead of the Xfinity TV Go app. Anything you stream on Xfinity TV Go counts against your data usage, while streaming on the Xfinity TV app does not.  Just something to consider.

Re: TV Go App-Parental Controls, How to Set it up on Android Device

I was signed in as the primary account. However, I signed in on the Android device since I figured using Parental Controls on the app would actually let me set up the controls for app usage on my phone.

After reading your post I signed in to My Account on my computer.

I do see XFINITY TV Online Parental Controls

And from what I read, it applies ONLY to Comcast ON LINE  viewing. It appears this will NOT set Parental Controls for the TV Go app on the ANDROID TABLET.

Just for fun I created another secondary account to test setting up Parental Controls.

Go through the process on the dummy account  I see 2 things:

1) These parental controls apply only to Xfinity TV Online service, which seems to confirm they do not apply to the TV Go app.

2) Transfer these settings to the XFINITY ™ TV app on your iPad.

Curious about that I clicked the link. I am told

Activate Parental Controls on your XFNITY App.

Once you have set a parental control PIN, you can restrict your family's ability to access content through the AnyPlay feature. To access AnyPlay feature:

1. Go to your XFINITY App on your mobile device

2. Open "settings" and select "parental control"

3. Set AnyPlay toggle to "ON"

The problems with that are:

I am NOT using an iPad. As stated several times it is an ANDROID tablet.

It appears as if the settings are for the TV app only, NOT TV Go app.

I did check both apps on my Android phone and there is no mention of ANYPLAY on either app. I will assume it would be the same on the Android tablet.

The TV app for cloud viewing does have a way to set up parental controls for it within the app, but that is NOT the one we want to use on the tablet. We want only the TV GO app.

Re: TV Go App-Parental Controls, How to Set it up on Android Device

It works on mine and I am on Android.  The pin looks like it applies to all user id's.  Set your Parental Controls as below and test:

Then log into the Xfinity TV Go app with the user id you set up.  Try to watch a movie with a rating higher than PG, and you will see it prompts you for a pin.  Like I said, it works for me on Android.

That does work on the TV Go app.

It is unfortunate that parental controls will apply to all accounts using the app.

In a perfect world one would be able to set up parental controls on selected accounts, such as one for an 8 year old without it affecting the adult accounts.

Just for fun, I checked the TV app and that is not blocked by the parental controls, so that has to be done separately.

I forgot to say Thank You for your input. I appreciate it.

Thinking about it, the 8 year old will be the only one to use the TV Go app.
