Remote no longer connected to Xfinity Box

We upgraded to the X1 box a couple of months ago.  Things have been fine, but yesterday the remote only allowed us to turn on/off the box.  We could no longer change channels. My daughter tried to fix it using the directions on the back of the remote, and now it will turn on/off the xfinity box but it doesn't connect the signal to the tv (screen remains blank).  Can you help?

The instructions on the back of the remote are for programming the remote to the cable box, not the tv. If you are attempting to program the remote to control the tv's volume or power, thsn just follow the steps here
