 Hi. I was wondering the same. Last night's (which I recorded) looked horrible. Somewhere above SD, but not nearly HD. I don't really understand the suggestion of using "another set top box"? I have one TV, one DVR (X1). that's what I used to watch it.  (I should add that I didn't have any audio troubles however.)

 

But this isn't across all channels. The football game I recorded from Fox on Saturday looked great. Something else I watched on another channel and had recorded looked great. And I double checked that my DVR is set to the HD version of AMC (798) for the recording. The visual quality is just really bad. Any ideas?

the images are a digital stream, no one can 'adjust' the color nor brightness etc as that is done in the production facility of the producer of the program. Are you seeing digital pixelation (boxes) on the screen breaking up due to lack of signal?

Kmgiants, your dvr is way out of spec and unrelated to X1, your modem is also out of spec just not as bad. Channels come in on different frequencies, so it's entirely possible to see issues on one channel but not others. Since you only have a dvr and modem, remove any extra splitters to gain back signal strength. If you can't, get a tech out to troubleshoot further

Hi Andrew. Thanks for your reply. Can you explain what you mean by "out of spec"? I thought that term meant it's an older model, but i just got the DVR about 3 months ago, directly from the comcast store location near me.

I believe i only have one splitter. Main cable line splits to the modem and to the DVR. That's it. Are there different quality splitters? Mine is definitely older. Thanks very much.

Specs is referring to the allowable signal range for the X1 boxes and modem to work properly. If all you have is that one splitter, I would get a tech out to track down the why's. But it doesn't explain why your dvr is so much more out of the range than your modem.

Thanks again Andrew. the modem and dvr are sitting about 6 inches away from each other. so that is strange. Can poor quality cables or length of connection cables impact this? to schedule a tech is that something i can do through you?

what frequency range does the splitter show?
