I am in another city  and useing the xfinity app to watch my TV programming and recorded programs   does mean that there is power to my home?

Not necessarily, you're watching a cloud copy on the app. The cloud records whether there is power to the dvr or not.

Have you tried running the Xfinity My Account app? the home page of the app should show the status of (some) of your equipment. Touching the TV tab will show blue dots on 'connected' devices.
