Equipment Clarification for X1?

Equipment Clarification for X1?

I have the below equipment in my house for X1 and I am very confused. Support keeps telling me the main network controller is the XG2, but my understanding is that the box is NOT a DVR. So how can it be my Main Network Controller? The XG2 was installed a week after the XG1. So why would they say this?

1. Arris XG1v1 - Blue Light DVR w/ HD (MODEL MX011ANM)

2. XG2 - MODEL PX022ANM

3. XiD - MODEL PXD01ANI

Also, is the XG2 really a DVR or not?

all three STBs communicate with each other. The XG2 is giving access (controller) to the XiD to tuners and to internet services. The DVR is able to then record up to 6 channels at one time or 5 and watch a channel not being recorded. The network method is called MoCA (media over coax cable).

The XG2 is not a DVR but in your case it is the network controller. If you unplug the XG2 or it loses power, the DVR becomes the network controller.

Re: Equipment Clarification for X1?

Any reason why trhe XG2 is the network controller? Self promoted by itself?

Does this mean my recordings are going to be all streamed form CLOUD or will they still record to HD on the XG1 box?

Re: Equipment Clarification for X1?

The network controller is in the backend controls, automatic when you have your type of setup. Anything you watch in home ( unless there's a dvr malfunction or cable outage) comes from the dvr itself.

Re: Equipment Clarification for X1?

So my XiD is streaming from the DVR or the XG2 network controller?

Re: Equipment Clarification for X1?

Correct for live tv/recordings. On Demand comes from the cloud

if it is a recorded program on your DVR that ithe XiD is streaming it is from your DVR. On Demand comes from the XR2's tuners or via IP stream. the XiD apps use internet supplied by the Xg2.

What would be an upgrade to.my XG1v1 DVR?

Do they offer one with more space or 4k?

the Xg1v1 differs from v2,3,4 in that v1 only has 5 usable tuners (Pace). Changing to non Pace v1 gives you the full 6 tuners on the DVR. the v4 adds ability to upconvert to 2180p.
