Data being used while viewing downloads

Hopefully someone can explain this to me because it makes no sense.  I downloaded episodes of Da Vinci's Demons while at home on wi-fi so that I can watch on my lunch and not use any of my LTE data from AT&T.  I am using a Samsung Galaxy S5.

So yesterday after my lunch I looked in the settings menu of the phone to see how much mobile data I had used recently.  Come to find out the "downloaded" show I had been watching for the last 45 minutes used 847MB! How can I use almost 1GB of data by watching a show that I downloaded to my device?
