Captioning issues- keep turning off, not working on some DVR shows

This just started a few weeks ago but it's very annoying.

The first issue is that my CC randomly turns off. Sometimes it's when I change channels, sometimes it's when the program I'm watching goes from one program to another, sometimes it's just random. It's easy enough to turn back on but why is this happening? And it's happening on multiple TVs so it's not a TV issue.

The second issue is that I'll try to turn on something from my DVR, whether it be on demand or recorded, and the captions won't show for what I'm watching but rather whatever the channel is that's running underneath. For example, I'll be watching CNN and then I'll try to watch and on demand show and instead of seeing the captions for that show, I'll still see CNN's.

Any ideas for what's going on? I think, though am not sure, that the problems started around the same time.

this is a user to user (generally) forum. Would you mind replying and hit the quote button, and state If you are using the new X1 entertainment system? When CC is 'off' when you hit down and look on left side is 3rd 'dot' "blue-checked" or CC with ON? I've learned to be sure not to leave the cursor on top of the CC control as I turn off mine accidentally sometimes. The clue in diagnosis for this will be is it a local setting of CC to off, or is it a particular program that just has an error in CC handling.
