Cable Card, premium service, and black box?

Cable Card, premium service, and black box?

I'm looking for some understanding...

I've a TiVo Premiere XL with a cable card that's been working well for about 5 years.  We get HBO and TV Japan in addition to whatever channels come with our package.

Friday we installed a second TiVo -- a Bolt if it matters -- and after a call to support got past the stuck at 72% problem.  All seemed to be working.   However, this weekend I noticed the new device is not authorized for HBO.  TV Japan is working fine.

After a useless on line session in which I was told someone would call (no call after 24 hours) I made a call to the cable card people.   Still no HBO.  Now I'm being told I need to pick up some kind of black box and hook it up to get HBO.

Can someone explain why TiVo 1 can receive all the channels we want but TiVo 2 needs a black box to receive HBO?

Replying to my own post.

Level 3 support finally called.   I read off some of information my unit was telling me about my cable card.  That took maybe 45 seconds.  He said he'd have it fixed in about 10 minutes and would call back then.   OK, it took closer to 15 minutes.  But it was fixed.  No black box needed.

I could only wish that all support people were as knowledgeable.
