new cable box...not displaying caller IDs

Per advice from Comcast techs, we exchanged our cable box/DVR this morning.  After it's been installed and programmed, we no longer have the caller IDs displayed on our TV screen.  Called Comcast and was told to turn off cable power, click on MENU, and change DISPLAY CAPTIONS from disabled to enabled.  This did NOT give us the desired result but rather gave us a word for word display of the on screen dialogue.  Can you assist us with this?
