Using Phone Through House Wiring?

I just had the service installed.  The installer asked how I was going to use my phones and I said through my wireless phones.  So, he plugged the main unit into the Modem and I had service.  I have since noticed that other subscribers have it running through their home wiring which lets them use older phones that require wire.  How can I get the same ability?  Is it something I have to buy?

First question is there a phone jack in the room where the modem is?

Yes, their is a phone jack within reach of the modem.

A way to test your lines is to run a phone line from the modem to phone jack and plug in your phone to another phone jack around the house

Ah, life just isn't easy.   The dang cable is on the opposite side (of room) of the telephone receptacle!
