Using Linksys Instead of Arris for Voice

I have the Comcast triple pay package.  Instead of renting the Arris VoIp modem that Comcast supplied, can I use my Linksys RT41P2 router?  It has two phone ports and is what I used with AT&T digital voice prior to Comcast.

To explain further, as I understand it, there are (at least) two cable channels in use, and one channel is devoted to Digital Voice.  Your modem has to understand multiple cable channels, and I doubt that the Linksys unit does that.  (This also is why you can't use a SIP IP phone to connect to the CDV softswitch.  A SIP IP phone would be on the internet cable channel.  Your telephone service running through your cable modem is using the CDV channel.)
