Need new modem + question

Need new modem + question

I have a TM502G/CT ARRIS Modem.  I have lost my ability to stream video wirelessly. Worked fine for a couple of years.

Is there a new modem that I can purchase from some source other than Comcast that will be the upgrade that I need and still have the telephoney plug in?

I use a seperate Netgear wireless router so no wireless needed... just cable internet and phone.

My second question... will I have to have a Comcast Tech come inside my house to install a replacement modem?

Thanks,

Geo

Re: Need new modem + question

It's always best to first call in or go to your local CC service center and inquire as to whether or not customer owned eMTA's (telephony type) modems are allowed to be used on the local system. Some local franchises still do not allow it and require you to rent one from CC.

Re: Need new modem + question

Thanks EG. I had tried most of the day to contact someone, someone alive, at Comcast but had no luck.

I hope it will be as simple as going to the Comcast Office and swapping out modems, comming home and installing it myself.

Thanks again,

George

Re: Need new modem + question

If you are planning to continue renting then ask them for a *latest tech* DOCSIS 3 capable eMTA such as an Arris 722 or an even newer and better Arris 822. It's a bit of a roll of the dice as to what they may have on hand. They may let you install it or your area may require a tech install. Good luck !

Re: Need new modem + question
