Continuing voicemail problems

I have intermittent problems with my voice mail.  Every so often (it's becoming more frequent) I have the intermittent stutter tone telling me I have a new message.  When I *99, it says I have no messages.  I spoke to Comcast help people a couple of times and the problem was escalated was the technical unit.  A rep called me and said that the problem was a glitch in the system and told me how to clear it (via Voice Preferences).  I've also removed the battery from my portable phones, waiting a couple of minutes and replaced them.  Nothing helps.  Can someone suggest a way to correct this?  Thank you.
