After editing my personal pages today, all of a sudden all the pages I have created are gone and the title of each of those pages says HOME but nothing is on the pages. Tried to call - cannot get any help or even someone to talk to about this. Any ideas? Could their server be down? Everything I posted to one of the standard pages, ie., events, blogs, phtoos, is still out there.
I am having the same exact problem. And they have no clue what is going on at Comcast. Only all of my pages are now titled Welcome with not one iota of info I had created. I lost at least 12 pages full of info for an important event coming up.
I've learned now that you must keep a backup of the pages - can copy the html and then restore if necessary. Or better yet, use another web hosting service that is reliable and supported. Might be nice if Comcast just said up front to use this service at your own risk.
What bothers me more than anything is that when you call Comcast they have no clue what is going on.....at least if they admitted there was a problem or put you in touch with a specialist right away it wouldn't be so bad. Sat on hold and with a rep that had no clue for at least one half hour to get nowhere. If they said they had a failure on the east coast (which if you look at the posts lately all are posting the problem from the east coast) then you could live with it. Guess that's what we get for relying on a "free" site instead of investing money in it. Considering dropping Comcast completely -- and that's sad because I am a stockholder in the company.
The Comcast web pages and especially the web page building tool is totally unsupported. You will not find anyone at Comcast who will support them. Well, if you prod hard enough and persistently enough, you may find someone who can track down someone who knows something. Maybe.
If you need to web pages, put them someplace reliable.
If you want to host your web pages at Comcast, use some other tool to build them and keep backups.
Please use another tool to build your pages. But if you insist on using the Comcast page-building tool ...
The Comcast tool stores your pages in a content-management system. The content you create (words, pictures) is stored in parts. It isn't stored as an HTML file. When someone asks for your page, the server combines the parts to present an HTML file to the user.
What may have happened is that the content you created may have been corrupted. I don't know. This system was installed many years ago, and the developers walked away. It is very hard to get anyone who knows anything about the system to look at a problem.
The people on the phones have no clue. It's not their fault. The "technical" people don't know either.
Your best bet if you want to try to recover what you had without just reentering it (slowly; do one page at a time; check it from another browser; be sure to save and publish) is to go to Comcast's help center and email them. Carefully describe that you need technical help with restoring your pages built with the Comcast-page-building tool.
Sorry I can't be more positive. Yes, these are definitely "Use at your own risk."
Thanks. I have already rebuilt the site. Now have backup. When I have completed this event where I used the site, it will be the time I use this again. Just trying to save money for non-profit effort. Not a good idea. But I do have to ask why they even provide this option when it is most likely to result in this kind of problem for everyone who tries to use it.
