After printing my bills for my taxes, came upon the charges for movies, we did not order.  All over the last several months.  I have contacted comcast both last night and this a.m., was told that the movies were ordered from my home.  We were not home when some of these were ordered.  None of the movies were movies that we ordered.  We ordered 1 movie in the last year, and that is it.  Comcast says that it was ordered and watched from my house and my remote.  I have now put on a pin, as of last night.  In the meantime, they say they are investigating it, but that it is not possible for someone else to have ordered the movies.  And that I need to ask my husband and guests, let me tell you, the titles to these movies made it world war 5 in my house last night.  My husband showed me that the times and that he was at work also.  We are the only people who live in the house. I see two options.

1. Comcast needs to figure out how is hacking my cable box; and/or

2. I need to call the police and change all of my locks because someone is breaking into my house and watching pornography a few times a month while my husband and i are at work...

Really Comcast??? Figure it out.

I asked if it was possible for someone to have hacked myonline account and ordered online, and was told it was not possible.  I am very confused, and angry that comcast is not willing to be more assistive.

FYI, you are not the first and won't be last to complain about being billed for movies you did not order.

Yes Larry, someone contacted me.  But it was the same thing as everyone else on these list about this topic.  It was ordered from my box.  My husband and I are not home and no one else lives there.  I had no idea that this has been going on for a year and a half until yesterday.  I found out about the last year on Tuesday.  This is insane.  I was credited for the last two movies.  That does nothing for me.  I have set up the pin, I have paid for all of the other charges not even realizing it.  My fault becuase I just paid my bill without looking.  I honestly didn't think businesses worked like this.  It is impossible for the movies to be ordered when noone is home, but yet Comcast says it is impossible not to have ordered them.  I have time cards indicating my husband and I were at work.

It is suprising to me that so many people on these forums have the same problem, but yet Comcast indicates it is impossible.  It is not impossible or even improbable at this point.  There is obviously something wrong with the box system.

After 10 years with Comcast this will be my last month.  I need to get my email accounts switched and I am out.  Which is very sad., I was happy with them until them, with the exception of the ridiculous prices, but now I know why.

That is not directed at you personally. I can see that you broke no rules.

The link is my signature. It appears in every post I make.  At least you did read the rules. So many people don't.

Don't take it personally, gb.  I posted a few years ago about a similar experience.  I believe that thread has been expired/removed, so I can't reference that thread directly.  Going from memory...  A PPV show of some sort that we hadn't ordered showed up on our bill.  Comcast removed the charge with no hassle, but I was told that the show must have been ordered by someone in our apartment.  Given that nobody but my spouse and I had access to our apartment, we wrote it off as a glitch, but I set a purchase PIN known only to me to protect against any future accidental PPV purchases.  Another PPV show that we didn't order was billed to our account a month or two later.  Because I had set up a purchase PIN, I was certain that we hadn't ordered the show, but Comcast wasn't as friendly about removing the charge from our account this time around.  I asked what my options were and was told that they could lock our account to make PPV purchases impossible.  Since we almost never purchased PPV content, we decided this was the way to go and assumed our probelm was solved for good.  Another month or two passed before another PPV show (I believe this one was pornographic in nature) that we couldn't possibly have ordered showed up on our bill.  I called Comcast and they removed the charge and said that they would try again to lock PPV purchases on our account.  We haven't had any issues since then.

While it is definitely not pleasant when someone from Comcast Support makes you feel like you're either insane or lying, changing providers can be a hassle, especially when internet service and corresponding email accounts are invovled.  If you don't have a need for PPV, you might consider asking Comcast to lock out PPV purchases on your account.  Just a thought.

PLEASE ADVISE THE MANAGEMENT AND THE HIGHER THE BETTER, THAT I AM MOBILIZING AS MANY PEOPLE AS I CAN AND WILL DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO STOP THIS FRAUD WHICH AS HAS BECOME APPARENT IS COMING FROM COMCAST !!!!!

I SUSPECTED MY NEIGHBORS AND EVERYONE ELSE BUT IT SEEMS THIS IS A COMMON PRACTICE AT COMCAST.

I AM SURE THAT ONCE THE UNITED STATES JUSTICE SYSTEM GETS INVOLVED COMCAST WILL BE A LOT MORE COOPERATIVE IN FINDING THE REAL CULPRIT FOR THE FRAUDULENT CHARGES ON ALL OUR BILLS.

BY THE WAY, I GOT THE SAME SONG AND DANCE AS THE REST OF THE POSTERS IN THIS SORRY BOARD.

THANKS

I too am battling with this exact same issue. They keep telling me someone is my house is absolutely ordering these movies. First of all these movies are porn movies and I wouldn't order them in the first place. Also I have ordered a movie from on demand before and will NEVER EVER .MAKE THAT MISTAKE AGAIN. The movie was a $1.99 rental, when the bill came in that friggin movie cost about $15.00. They charged taxes and get this--a convenience fee of $6.99. When I tell them I live by myself and I've had no company they still insist I ordered these movie and watched them. One gal started out telling me I watched one movie for 87 minutes. I said nope. Then she said well you watched it for 10 minutes, again I said nope. Then she said I watched the movie for 1 minute. I said which is it, did I watch it for 87 or 10 or 1 minute you people are lieing. My brother had this same exact issue with comcast. When he took his equipment to return it he told them why. They told him the equipment he was returning didn't have the capabilities to rent any movies at all. HMMM go figure. Then I see all these complaints. I am a long time comcast customer GOODBYE THEIVES. I'm going to have a chat with the FTC and see what they think about this issue. They do not like thieves.

AUGH!!  It is so validating to hear that other people have, unfortunately, experienced the same thing I have. My household has experienced 3 occasions in the past two years where we were billed for movies we didn't purchase (We never purchased a movie in our lives).  While Comcast did take the fraudulent charges off "as a courtesy", they insisted that we ordered  these movies from the remote and that we needed to activate "Parental Controls" to stop this from occurring, inferring, of course, that we weren't telling the truth.  AUGH!!!!  There are no children in this family and we weren't even home for 2 of these charges so how, we asked him, will that help? I'm pretty sure that the goldfish didn't do it.  It is so frustrating.  We, too, asked if there might be a way that someone was hacking into something that would cause this but that question wasn't even entertained.  So, the questions I have are a) does Comcast really think that we are all lying? or  b) are they indiscriminately charging movies to us, hoping that we won't notice?  or c) are they aware that, indeed, there are ways for someone outside of the household to access our accounts but they aren't letting us know or providing adequate security? It's hard to believe that with the number of individuals over the past several years that have raised this as an issue, that it is still occurring.  The Comcast service folks didn't even pretend to believe me when I called to express my concerns about this.  An honest effort to find explore what could have happened to to secure my account was not even considered.   They are the worst customer service dept I have ever had the displeasure to deal with.

This is happening to us every month, and we've been given the same run-around (including settings a PIN that does nothing).   Clearly Comcast has a problem in their system that they have been unwilling to address for years.   I'd be glad to join any class action suit against them, since after 4 different phone calls they have failed to resolve the issue.

I recently was charged for a on demand movie.  The same movie on two different occasions. I couldn't understand how it happened.  Comcast told me to activate the parental control and purchase pin after the first occurrence.  I did.  The mysterious purchased happened again.  The same movie.  Well, by chance I figured out how it happened.  First of all, my mother, who doesn't look at the tv screen when pushing remote control keys, pushed the digits 702702.  She meant to push 702 and then the enter key.  Well 702702 seemed to be a shortcut to this movie.  The next window on the screen is the purchase window.  She then pushes the enter key without looking at the tv screen.  The movie gets purchased!   Secondly,  the purchase pin needs to be activated on all set top or receivers separately.  That is,  I had to go to each tv and activate the purchase pin on its receiver box.  I had only activated the pin on my set top box.  And even though it's the primary box, it did not impact my other two boxes.  Now i have the pin activated on all my boxes.  I should not have any more issues!   My mystery has been solved.  Hopefully this helps for someone too.
