TV picture size

wide flat screen TVs have black lines on top, bottom and sides significantly reducing size of picture.  Do I need a service I have not selected to get a full screen picture?

Re: TV picture size

I have a Samsung 50in new led TV. I have Xfinity HD. Initially, there were black areas at the top and sides of the screen no matter what it was set to, even 16x9. This happens on more than one channel. I can set the zoom in (custom) to get the pictire to fix the screen but the Guide lettering is huge and hard to read the channel labels. Why do it do this?

Re: TV picture size

What tier of channels are you watching? Channels: 1 to 99 were only meant for analog tv's in the past. Channels 100 to 199 were meant for SD (4:3 ) televisions.

Do you have a HD cable-box and are you paying for HD service? Is the cable-box connected to the television with a HDMI cable? HD channels are normally found in the 400 series, 700 series, or 800 and above series of channels. Others are scattered between 200 to 699 depending on type of service.
